Joel Baldacchino is a Maltese guitarist, singer, and songwriter, born on the 1st of July 1995. He is best known for his work as lead vocalist and guitarist with Pyramid Suns and currently as guitarist with Manic Satin, a groovy classic rock inspired project. Over the years, he has also been involved in other bands such as Shlamizard, an ambient post-rock project, and Skorch, a proto-punk band.

Deeply inspired by legendary classic rock acts including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple, Joel’s musical journey began after immersing himself in the sounds of the 70s. Alongside these influences, bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and HIM also played an important role in shaping his musical identity from a young age. He bought his first guitar at the age of 16 and has been dedicated to music ever since.

Only a year after picking up the instrument, Joel co-founded Pyramid Suns, driven by a strong desire to create original music. Throughout the years, he experimented with different instruments including bass and piano, although guitar remained his primary focus. He also spent around four years playing bass with Skorch, an experience that, despite being stylistically different from his usual musical direction, became an important and enjoyable part of his growth as a musician. As his musical taste evolved beyond classic rock into genres and influences such as film and video game soundtracks, trip-hop, lo-fi, progressive rock, and metal, so did his songwriting and compositions. This evolution became evident throughout the progression of Pyramid Suns’ music, with the band’s early EP differing greatly from their later album while still maintaining a distinct identity.

Today, Joel’s main focus is Manic Satin, a project that feels like a return to the roots that originally inspired him to pursue music. Through the band, he combines decades of influences and experiences into a sound that feels vintage yet contemporary. Currently, Manic Satin is actively writing, recording, rehearsing, and performing live while continuing to grow creatively and enjoy the journey together.
