Ray Agius

Ray Agius has been active in the Maltese music scene since the early 1970s. Over the years, he has successfully participated in numerous festivals both locally and internationally, performing in countries such as Japan, Chile, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Ireland, Slovakia, Romania, Kazakhstan, Australia, and Canada.
Throughout his career, Ray has received several prestigious awards and honors. In 1998, he won the Best Composer Award at the Voice of Asia International Song Festival in Kazakhstan. In 2003, he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the MegaHit Mediterranean Song Festival in Antalya, Turkey.
Ray's songs represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland in 1995 with the song “Keep Me in Mind,” and again in 1997 with “Let Me Fly.” On both occasions, he also conducted the orchestra. He was honored as Best Composer at the Malta Music Awards in 1995 and 1997.
Among Ray’s most popular songs—many written in collaboration with author Alfred C. Sant—are “L-Ewwel Tfajla li Ħabbejt,” “Dak Kien Żmien,” “Fjura fil-Kantina,” “Fejn Tħobb il-Qalb,” and “Sal-Aħħar.”
Jazz music also holds a special place in Ray’s heart. Recently, he recorded and released a long-playing vinyl album titled “Supernova,” featuring his original jazz compositions. The album was officially launched during Assemblea Jazz following a concert held at Spazju Kreattiv in November 2025.
