About the event

Led by the father-and-son duo, George Aquilina and Karol Aquilina ‘Ta’ Nofsillejl’, this workshop is the first of its kind, dedicated to enlightening the public about the use of traditional guitars in Maltese għana. The session will provide a comprehensive overview, encompassing a general history of influential guitar players in the 20th century, exploring various forms of playing in għana, and delving into the use of accompanying and improvising guitars. These will all be accompanied by guided listening. This unique and informative presentation aims to deepen the understanding of the role of guitars in the context of Maltese għana, with the ultimate goal of inspiring and informing others to embrace and carry forward this rich musical tradition.

Each participant is asked to bring their own steel guitar for the workshop.
