Often called a cumannata in dialect, the dance is presided over by the maestro di ballo who guides the dancers calling out the shapes and patterns to be perform. Mainly associated with carnival, La Contradanza  is also performed in popular social events like weddings, Christmas, New Year's Eve or the birth of a new family member.
