Devil’s Breath Featured on Latest Sombre Soniks Dark Ambient Release

The latest instalment in the acclaimed Sombre Soniks Dark Ambient Series, Volume 32, has now been released, featuring Devil’s Breath with the track The Missing Children In The Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum Of Raħal Ġdid.

The track appears as Track 13 on the new release, which brings together artists exploring the darker and more atmospheric side of experimental music. The series’ theme for this edition invited artists to take inspiration from a “sakred space” – a place of spiritual power, whether a man-made structure or a natural geological site.

For Devil’s Breath, the inspiration came from their homeland of Malta, and one of the island’s most mysterious and enduring locations: the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum.

The Missing Children In The Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum Of Raħal Ġdid draws on a local folklore legend which is said to have emerged around the time of the Second World War. According to the tale, a group of children and their teacher disappeared deep within the underground tunnels of the Hypogeum. The story further claims that, for weeks afterwards, screams and wailing could allegedly be heard coming from beneath the ground, while search parties reportedly found no trace of the missing children or their teacher.

Whether regarded as folklore, urban legend or simply one of Malta’s many mysterious stories, the tale provides a fitting foundation for Devil’s Breath’s dark and unsettling composition.

Through its combination of Dark Ambient, Drone Ambient, Tribal Ambient and Ambient Noise, the track creates an ominous sonic atmosphere inspired by the underground world of the Hypogeum and the legend surrounding the missing children.

The new Sombre Soniks release is now available through Bandcamp.
