Geistmaschine to Launch Debut Album Explorers of Lightless Planets in 2027

Maltese cosmic post-metal trio Geistmaschine will release their debut album, Explorers of Lightless Planets, on 19 February 2027 through Kewn Records. The following evening, Saturday 20 February, the band will celebrate the release with an album launch event at The Garage in Żebbuġ, performing the album in its entirety.

Formed in 2023, Geistmaschine are a three-piece whose eclectic and cinematic sound combines post-metal with elements of noise and obscure samples, weaving these contrasting textures into an atmospheric sonic landscape. The band brings together three musicians with backgrounds in different corners of Malta’s underground music scene: Timothy Garrett, known for his work with Krishna and Double Standard; Michael Spiteri of Viper Soup Complex; and Gabriel Borg, whose musical credits include Gastroschisis.

Titled Explorers of Lightless Planets, the forthcoming album represents the band’s debut full-length release and introduces their musical collaboration in an extended format. The album was recorded live by David Depasquale at Spinesplitter Studios in Malta in 2024, while the mixing and mastering were handled by Derek Leisy and Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in the United States.

The visual presentation of the release features artwork by BLAC, with Timothy Garrett responsible for the digital design. While the album will be released through Kewn Records on 19 February 2027.

The celebrations will continue on Saturday 20 February, when Geistmaschine take to the stage at The Garage in Żebbuġ to perform Explorers of Lightless Planets from beginning to end. The event will offer audiences the opportunity to experience the album as a complete work in a live setting.

Since their formation in 2023, Geistmaschine have brought together their members’ varied musical backgrounds to explore a sound that extends beyond conventional post-metal, incorporating noise and obscure samples into a cinematic approach. With the release of Explorers of Lightless Planets, the trio are preparing to introduce the results of this collaboration through their first full-length album, followed by a launch event dedicated to its complete live performance.

Further announcements concerning the album launch and physical release are expected in due course. Updates can be followed through Geistmaschine’s official Facebook page.
