“Tell Your Mama” is both a confession and a liberation- Kayati
“Tell Your Mama” is inspired by late night conversations where friends share dating stories and relationship insights. Kayati reflects on the meaningful qualities we seek, like effort, being heard, and recognising red flags.
The song addresses a common “dealbreaker”: being with someone who relies too much on their mother, causing your voice to fade. This situation makes it hard to connect, especially when disagreements arise and the mother intervenes, dismissing your perspective. In truth, he isn’t perfect, and his flaws become hard to ignore.

Ultimately, “Tell Your Mama” is both a confession and a call for liberation. It encourages him to admit his shortcomings to his mother and acknowledge that he didn’t love properly or listen genuinely. At its heart, the song is about finding closure and peace in honesty, even if it’s shared with his mother instead of the partner he lost.
