Malta Death Fest 2024

5th Edition Set for an Explosive Two-Day Metal Extravaganza

The highly anticipated Malta Death Fest returns for its fifth edition, bringing a brutal onslaught of metal mayhem over two days. The festival will take place on Friday, September 27th, and Saturday, September 28th, 2024, at The Garage, Triq I-Imdina, Zebbug.

This year’s lineup is packed with an impressive array of metal talent from both local and international scenes, guaranteeing a relentless weekend of heavy music. Here’s a look at the bands set to perform:

Inverecund hails from Reggio Emilia, Emilia-Romagna in Italy. Since their formation in 2019, they’ve been delivering brutal death metal with themes centered around violence, death, and torture. Signed to New Standard Elite, they released their debut EP, Engrossed in Horripilation, in 2023.

Caedere, a veteran death metal band from Haaksbergen, Overijssel in the Netherlands, has been active since 1998. With four full-length albums, three EPs, and a demo under their belt, they are known for their intense sound. Their latest EP, Orbital Cleansing, was released on September 8th, 2023.

Local legends Angelcrypt have been a staple in the Maltese metal scene since 1997. Known for their powerful live shows, they have released two full-length albums: We Are the Dead (2016) and Dawn of the Emperor (2020). The band is currently touring Europe with their "Legacy of Valour" tour.

From Germany, Deafcarnation brings their melodic death metal sound to the festival. Their debut full-length album, Human Infested, released on April 29th, 2022, has been well-received, marking them as a band to watch.

Maze of Sothoth, an Italian technical death metal band from Bergamo, Lombardy, will headline Friday’s show. Since their formation, they have released their debut album Soul Demise in 2017, and their latest, Extirpated Light, on March 24th, 2023, through Everlasting Spew Records.

Another standout act is Malta’s own Martyrium, a melodic black metal band formed in 1999. Their discography includes five albums, with their latest release, Lamia Satanica, arriving in 2021. They are well-known for their atmospheric and intense live performances.

Saturday’s headliner is Impaled Nazarene, a top artist from Osmose Productions. This Black Metal band hails from Oulu, Pohjois-Pohjanmaa, Finland, and was originally known as Mutilation before changing their name. In an interview, Mika Luttinen explained that the name "Impaled Nazarene" was inspired by a pamphlet he read about Christ being depicted as a vampire. He thought about how impaling is one of the few ways to kill a vampire, which led to the band’s current name. Their discography includes thirteen full-length studio albums, one live album, a compilation, a split with Driller Killer (2000), five EPs, and three demos.

Local newcomers Halcyon have taken the scene by storm since their debut gig in March 2023. Formed by young, talented musicians, the band initially started as a trio but added a second guitarist this year, who made his debut with the band during Rock The South. They are currently working on their debut release, having teased fans with two demo recordings over the past few months.

Sepiroth, another Dutch death metal act, will bring their fierce energy to the stage. Formed in Sliedrecht, South Holland, in 2003, they have released three full-length albums, with Condemned to Suffer being their latest in 2021.

Rounding out the lineup are Sacroment, a local death metal band formed earlier this year. Despite being newcomers, they’ve already made a mark by participating in the Crowned Battle Of The Bands in July. Their debut album, New Age Aggression, is nearing completion and promises to add to the festival’s intense atmosphere.

Malta Death Fest 2024 is shaping up to be an unmissable event for metal fans, with a lineup that promises to deliver two days of relentless, high-octane performances. Make sure to mark your calendars and prepare for a weekend of pure metal chaos.

Tickets at the door are priced at 55€ for both days, with individual tickets available at 25€ for Friday and 35€ for Saturday. For more information, visit the event's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1589176498538295.
