Malta’s premier alternative music festival, Rock the South, is set to make a triumphant return to Zion Bar & Restaurant for its 12th edition. Hemplifier Welcomes New Bassist Fred Burd Ahead of Rock the South Debut

Stoner doom band Hemplifier has officially announced the addition of Fred Burd as their new bassist and backing vocalist. The band made the announcement on March 17th, welcoming Burd with the words, "We would like to welcome our brother Fred Burd who will be taking over bass & backing vocal duties! You've now been officially Hemplified!" The announcement was accompanied by visuals from Bloodography.

Burd’s arrival comes at a significant moment for the band, as just four days later, Hemplifier was confirmed as part of the lineup for this year’s edition of Rock the South Malta. This marks Burd’s live debut with the band, adding an extra layer of anticipation for their upcoming performance.

Beyond his new role in Hemplifier, Burd is well-known in the local metal scene as a member of Victims Of Creation, where he plays alongside Hemplifier’s Emanuel Portelli and Dino Mifsud Lepre, as well as Rex Grech Santucci. He is also part of the band A Black White Satellite, further showcasing his diverse musical background.

With their heavy, fuzz-laden sound and now a refreshed lineup, Hemplifier continues to solidify their presence in Malta’s underground music scene. Fans can look forward to experiencing the band's raw energy live at Rock the South, where Burd will make his much-anticipated debut.
