MYLES RELEASES “RKANT” FEATURING DJ MAC - A SATIRICAL LOOK AT A COUNTRY UP FOR SALE

Maltese artist Myles returns with “RKANT”, featuring DJ Mac, a confrontational new release taking aim at overdevelopment, political convenience and the increasingly blurred line between public interest and private profit in Malta.

The title - RKANT, Maltese for auction - forms the central metaphor of the track: a country where seemingly everything has a price.

“Din mhix gżira... dan huwa rkant.”

This isn’t an island... this is an auction.

Through sharp satire and deliberately direct Maltese lyrics, Myles paints a familiar picture: cranes dominating the skyline, gardens becoming apartment blocks, windows looking into other windows and land once valued for what it was being reduced to another item on the market.

The song questions what Malta has come to define as “progress”:

“Kull metru kwadru għandu prezz...

ilbieraħ ġnien, illum kumpless,

nagħtu x-xemx u nsejħulha progress.”

But “RKANT” moves beyond construction itself. Its second half turns towards the systems that allow it to happen - planning, permits, political connections and a culture where rules can appear flexible depending on who is holding the pen.

“Il-liġi tintewa skont min iżomm il-pinna.”

The track uses humour and exaggeration alongside frustration, reflecting the increasingly absurd relationship between development, politics and everyday Maltese life.

DJ Mac features on the release, continuing a collaboration with Myles that has become closely associated with the latter’s Maltese-language material and its mixture of alternative music, rap and social commentary.

“RKANT” follows Myles’ growing catalogue of Maltese songs using music as a way of documenting and questioning what is happening around him. Rather than presenting itself as a political manifesto, the track asks a simpler question:

If Malta continues selling off the things that made it worth living here in the first place, what exactly will be left for the next generation?

“X’se tħalli lil uliedek? Mhux xi postcard żgur.”

“RKANT” featuring DJ Mac is out now.
