RANKIN RETURN WITH ‘THIS FACTORY’

FIRST SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM ‘RAGE’

Malta groove-metal band Rankin released “This Factory” today, the first single from their forthcoming second album, Rage, which is being released in January 2027.

Recorded at SpineSplitter Studio with David Depasquale, the track marks Rankin’s first release since their 2022 debut album Chrysalis and opens the door to a new record four years in the making.

Formed in Malta in 2018, Rankin built their sound around groove metal while drawing from sludge, stoner, thrash, progressive and alternative influences. Following the release of the 10-track Chrysalis, the band established itself as a regular presence in Malta’s rock and metal scene, developing a reputation for heavy, energetic live performances.

Comprising James Byrne (vocals), Shaun Farrugia (guitar), Germán Salgado (bass) and Gimli Ukkonen (drums), Rankin, who are managed by Nick Grima MGT, have begun their next chapter with a track that sounds as heavy its dystopian factory concept.

This Factory is a piston-pumping, gear-grinding piece of unapologetic groove metal, driven by grizzled guitars and the relentless momentum of machinery in motion. It also features a catchy chorus hook that showcases the power, both musically and vocally, that Rankin are capable of.

Lyrically, the song rages against the replication and destruction of human autonomy and creativity. Topical…

This dark AI nightmare sees humanity feeding its own production lines while individuality has been hole-punched through the heart by pistons, revealing automaton circuitry instead of bloody human viscera.Not a light topic but the feel and delivery of this mecha-apolocalyptic song certainly matches the concept.
