SAĦĦAR Announces New Album Miġja ta Moħħ Miġnun

Out June 12, 2026 via Time To Kill Records

Malta’s enigmatic black metal force Saħħar returns with a new full-length opus, Miġja ta Moħħ Miġnun (“Journey of a Mad Mind”), set for release on June 12, 2026 via Time To Kill Records. Available on LP, CD, MC, and digital formats, the album marks a bold new chapter in Saħħar’s ever-expanding body of work.

A one-man creative entity at its core, Saħħar—helmed by Marton Saliba—continues to blur the boundaries between composition, storytelling, and sonic extremity. On Miġja ta Moħħ Miġnun, Saliba performs all studio instruments and vocals, while a dedicated live lineup brings the material to the stage:

  • David Cutajar – Live Guitar

  • Gordon O’Reilly – Live Bass

  • Kyle Anthony Cortis – Live Guitar

A Descent into Forbidden Knowledge

Miġja ta Moħħ Miġnun is a concept album presented as a prose narrative, chronicling the psychological and spiritual descent of a man driven by an insatiable hunger for forbidden knowledge. Abandoning worldly comforts, the protagonist ventures through ancient scrolls, hidden caves, and forgotten maps, ultimately crossing the threshold between life and death.

Defying religious authority and embracing arcane forces, he evolves into a sorcerer-like figure—possibly an Antichrist—encountering resurrection, occult rituals, and visions of a mysterious underworld queen. His journey culminates in a state of paradox: both cursed and exalted, suspended between madness, immortality, and damnation.

The story draws inspiration from a Maltese legend documented by Agostino Levanzin, itself rooted in real 16th-century events. As with all Saħħar releases, the narrative is delivered entirely in Maltese, enhancing the album’s mystique and cultural depth.

Sonic Identity

Musically, Saħħar remains firmly rooted in black metal while weaving in symphonic, doom, necro, and raw/traditional elements—often described collectively as “Ruinous Black Metal.” The album unfolds through a dense yet deliberate pacing, combining a relentless wall of sound with Saħħar’s distinctive vocal delivery.

Fans of Dark Funeral, Gorgoroth, Mortuary Drape, and early Dimmu Borgir will find familiar darkness here, yet Miġja ta Moħħ Miġnun stands apart through its narrative ambition and linguistic uniqueness.
