R.A.S - Rage Against Society < Back The band was formed by Ray Schembri (gtr/vox) and Jason Mizzi (bass) back in September 1995 and a few months later Ray Micallef joined in on drums. Along the years there were many lineup changes, which reflected also in the music style which varied from Punk Rock to more aggressive Hardcore and anarcho punk genre. Lyrically R.A.S. speak out against all forms of oppression and most of the songs are a loud protest full of angst and rebellion. The band released a demo tape in 2000 titled 'Shameless Music' and in 2010 titled '15 Years Of Kaos' and in 2015 the CD 'Rezistenza' which is all in Maltese language. R.A.S. took part in many gigs and festivals around Malta and Gozo during the years and also supported some foreign acts from time to time. < Back Grace Elizabeth Victoria Singer Grace is a 21-year-old originally from the UK, now living in Malta for the past nine years. Music has always been at the heart of her life. From a young age, she trained in musical theatre and has been performing for over a decade. Her early background was rooted in musical theatre and classical music, while her love for timeless music naturally led her toward jazz and classic performance styles. In her late teens and early adulthood, Grace performed with a theatre company, singing musical theatre favorites and jazz classics. During her teenage years, she discovered a deep passion for rock and roll, especially the iconic sounds of 60s and 70s rock. Wanting to bring that energy to a modern audience, she set out to revive the music she loved by joining a band. Devil's Breath < Back Devil's Breath is a project featuring Cultura Obscura and [Dis]event aka Office Of Exorcism. Influenced by Dark Ambient, Industrial, Ritual, Tribal and certain aspects of Techno, both members came together with the notion that music is an artistic concept with no restrictions and no boundaries. Rights and liberties of indigenous people, the mysticism and horror of the inevitable suffering and inexorable death, misanthropy and natural environment are the themes which inspire Devil’s Breath most. < Back Carl Cassar Bassist Facebook Carl Cassar’s musical journey began during his secondary school years, influenced by friends who played instruments and his brother’s eclectic CD collection. These early inspirations set him on a path that would lead to a lifelong passion for music, though he never pursued it professionally. Instead, Carl describes himself as a musician who follows his passion while maintaining a day job outside the music world. One of the most significant periods in Carl's life was his adolescence, where his love for music took root. While he may not be a full-time musician, music is a deep passion that shapes much of his identity. He’s had formal training in guitar for several years but is a self-taught bass player, a role he particularly enjoys. Over the years, Carl’s approach to music has been shaped by a multitude of influences, making it difficult for him to single out a particular artist or style that defines his work. This multitude of inspirations contributes to the unique and diverse nature of his musical approach. Carl is most drawn to genres like jazz fusion and progressive rock, which allow for diversity and complexity, but he doesn’t like to be pigeonholed. “There’s good music in any genre,” he explains, which reflects his broad musical exploration and open-mindedness. This ethos has guided his involvement in several bands, although many have not made it beyond the rehearsal space. One of his standout projects was Xidja, a hip-hop band performing original songs in Maltese, where the bass played a pivotal role. Though Xidja didn’t break through commercially, it remains a special project for Carl. Currently, Carl is part of From Sheep to Wolves, a collaboration that has lasted for nearly four years—his longest and most stable band involvement to date. He attributes this to the successful balance of expectations and ambitions within the band, acknowledging the challenges that come with maintaining harmony in a group. For Carl, the dynamics within a band can be tricky, and in the past, drama and conflicting visions have caused issues. However, with From Sheep to Wolves, Carl feels like they are “doing something right.” Carl’s musical experiences are diverse, but one of his most cherished memories was his first live performance at the age of 12, where he played guitar for a school band. Moments like this, and every instance where he sees people enjoying his music, are his proudest achievements. He is especially excited about the upcoming debut album with From Sheep to Wolves and the ongoing work on their second album. The band’s sound has evolved, and Carl believes that’s a healthy progression. Outside of the band, Carl is also exploring the possibility of working on non-metal projects, keeping his creative horizons wide open. Carl's hopes for his audience are simple but profound. In an age where 30-second clips dominate attention spans, he wishes for listeners to experience the full album journey, appreciating the depth and thoughtfulness of a complete body of work from start to finish. If given the opportunity, Carl would love to jam with Tim Commerford from Audioslave, particularly to play something from their first album. As a nod to his deep admiration for the band’s late frontman, Carl jokes that he’d also give Chris Cornell a big hug during the session. A fun fact about Carl that might surprise his audience is that, although he is left-handed, he plays the bass guitar right-handed—a unique quirk that reflects his unconventional approach to both music and life. Through his rich musical experiences and diverse collaborations, Carl Cassar embodies a deep commitment to his art, driven by passion rather than profession. Whether in a rehearsal space or on stage, Carl continues to explore new musical frontiers while staying true to the joy and freedom that music brings him. Inspired and influenced by bands such as “Nightwish” and “Within Temptation” whose symphonic elements took her into an unlimited world of imagination and fantasy, at 19 years of age she joined a local ambiance, atmospheric, metal band called “Sepia.” Soon afterwards she started to take classical singing lessons with Ms. Antoinette Miggiani, whose years of coaching were necessary and essential into shaping her style. After Sepia got disbanded, she took part in various other musical projects, that formed part of the local underground scene, including “Nisga” a folk world- music oriented band, and “Deluge of Sorrow” - an experimental, atmospheric doom metal band, participating in both mainstream events such as “Ghanafest” and “Notte Bianca” as well as events in the underground scene. In 2015 she joined local symphonic, death and black metal band “Martyrium”. This band provided her with the opportunity to tour and participate in gigs and festivals in: Ukraine, Romania, Italy, France,Slovakia Germany and Belgium. Throughout this time she shared the stage with huge bands and names in the metal scene including: Sepultura, Cradle of Filth and Behemoth. By then Annemarie had also become an event and festival organizer, as ‘Martyrium’ were in talks with different foreign and local bands who participated in their annual local festivals. She is up to this very day in charge of organizing and coordinating the yearly festival “SoundArt Malta” Throughout this time Annemarie was also part of “Viper soup Complex”. At the time the band was occupied with writing new materials for their first album, as well as preparing for live local gigs. By the end of 2017, her time with “Martyrium” had come to an end and “Deluge of sorrow” took a bit of a back seat however “Viper Soup complex” still went and goes on. “Viper Soup Complex” have proudly released their debut album on the 22nd of October 2018. They have so far also been given the opportunity to perform with significant foreign bands (such as “Septic Flesh”) in localfestivals. Between 2018 and the end of 2019 Annemarie toured together with the band in various countries, bringing their music to Poland, Romania,Belgium, Italy and the UK sharing the stage with “Riverside” in March of 2019 amongst others. In 2022 following the pandemic, Annemarie (together with Vipersoup complex) resumed her touring explorations, as the band shared the stage with “Within temptation” in Romania and “Focus” in the UK to name but a few. Together with viper Annemarie is currently focused on the release of their EP and is exploring new musical and theatrical directions through other involvements she has with CentreStage Malta. “Viper Soup Complex” has given her the space to express herself through theatrics, props and choreographies. < Back Melchior Busuttil Drums Michela Aquilina Melchior Busuttil born on 23rd August 1991 he comes from Pembroke. He is a Drummer/ Percussionist, Tutor and Producer/Studio Engineer. Born and raised in Malta, He has been playing drums professionally since the age of 16, and is a highly respected musician and educator, known for seamlessly and creatively merging technical ability with musicality. Melchior studied drums under the direction of the Maltese Percussionist Joe 'Bibi' Camilleri and also studied timpani, xylophone and other percussion instruments at the Malta School Of Music. Apart from Drums and Percussions he also studies music theory and Orchestration under the direction of Annmarie Chircop and graduated with distinction and honours. He is experienced in performing both live on stage, recording in the studio and on TV, with a diversity of artists in a broad range of styles.Not new to entertaining on big platforms, such as Muzika Muzika, Notte Bianca, Eurovision Song Contest, Ġensna, Beerfest/Winefest, Għanja tal Poplu, Kaxxaturi, Concerts with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Teatru Unplugged, the annual Pantomime and other large scale events. Melchior has taken his work, both as a player and tutor, across Europe to countries like Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece, Poland, France, Belgium, and others as well as further around the globe to places like Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. He has been part of the production of singles and albums with Saving Alexis, Cruz, Marc Galea, No Bling Show, Xarulu, Viper Soup Complex, Simon Sammut, Brass house unit, Chordust and other independent artists/bands that have hit the No.1 spot on Malta's most popular radio stations, and also won awards for his hard work at various local Music Awards. Currently playing with some of Malta's biggest bands, like No Bling Show, Brass House Unit, Viper Soup Complex, Palace String Orchestra, Malta Concert Orchestra, Karin Duff and others, in some of the country’s biggest musicals and productions such as Ġensna, Abba Gold, Muzika Muzika, Cats, 1565, Sound of Music, Djamanti Muzikali, Addams Family, etc , and is also affiliated with major foreign drum companies as-well as other sponsors who support his musical endeavours.
