Guitarists began weekly rehearsals at Kwinti Studjows, preparing for the highly anticipated November concert. The upcoming collaboration with singers is expected to further elevate the energy and excitement surrounding the event. In a heartwarming addition, representatives from Dr Klown visited one of the rehearsals to introduce their impact work at Mater Dei Hospital. This collaboration emphasises the Foundation's commitment to blending music with community service. On August 22, the Foundation hosted an open-mic night at StoreRoom in Ta’ Xbiex, featuring performances by guitarists, band members, and singers. The evening was a success, offering both entertainment and a sense of community. Looking forward, the Foundation is preparing for its popular Pasta Night, with all proceeds going to support Dr Klown. In addition, the Strummin’ Foundation is partnering with VocalBooth Studios to offer a three-hour voice masterclass on September 20, led by Malta’s acclaimed singer-songwriter and vocal coach, Pamela Bezzina. Open to singers aged 14 and up, the masterclass will focus on enhancing vocal technique, stage presence, and song interpretation. Participants will benefit from Bezzina’s extensive experience, which spans various popular Maltese bands and international performances. Pamela Bezzina, renowned for her soul and gospel style, has made significant contributions to Malta’s music scene both as a performer and a coach. Vilhena Philharmonic Band to Make Historic Debut at Manoel Theatre In a historic milestone, the Vilhena Philharmonic Band of Floriana will perform for the first time at the renowned Manoel Theatre in Valletta. The concert, titled "150 Anniversarju: Kunċert Strumentali mill-Banda Vilhena," is being held to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the band's founding in 1874. X-Tend Celebrates 40 Years of Music with Special Anniversary Album X-Tend, a group that has entertained thousands of Maltese and international fans across multiple generations, is marking its 40th anniversary this month with the release of a new album. This special collection, which includes a limited edition of some of their greatest hits, commemorates the band's enduring legacy. Scheduled for release on September 25th, the album will be the thirteenth in X-Tend’s history, which began in 1984. The band’s name was inspired by an ironmongery shop in Sliema, close to where they first started playing, embodying the youthful dream of a group of friends who, like many others, simply wanted to enjoy making the music they loved. At the time, the members could hardly have imagined that they would still be active four decades later. Reflecting on their journey, one of the founders remarked on the band's longevity, a testament to their enduring passion for music. For those who grew up with X-Tend's music, iconic tracks such as "I Can Feel," "Midnight Sun," and "Boys Of Tomorrow" remain vivid reminders of the 1980s. The new album, titled X-Tend 1984-2024,  will be available later this month in major stores, including a vinyl format that has seen a resurgence in popularity akin to its heyday when the band first formed. Valletta's Strada Stretta to Host Rock-Fueled Evening with Rock N’ Roll Circus The Valletta Cultural Agency’s Strada Stretta programme is set to return with a bang on the 20th of September, featuring an electrifying evening of rock classics and crowd-favorite hits at the highly anticipated event, ROCK’IN THE STREET. The event will showcase performances by the newly-formed Rock N’ Roll Circus, a dynamic collective of some of Malta’s most talented musicians and vocalists. This rotating ensemble is led by veteran rock artists Mikaela Attard (vocals) and Wayne Camilleri (guitar), who first brought the group together just weeks ago for a memorable debut at a local beer festival. Their performance was met with rave reviews, with many stating that "they rocked the crowd" like never before. Joining Attard and Camilleri on stage will be a stellar lineup that includes Stefan Pia, Talitha Dimech, Matthew James Borg, Frank Calleja, Luca Xuereb, and other top-tier artists. Rogue Debuts at The Garage On Saturday, June 15th, Rogue made a striking debut at an event organised by Rankin at The Garage. This new band, composed of seasoned musicians, brought a dynamic and eclectic energy to the stage. The lineup of Rogue includes singer Juan Xerri from Animamortua, and backing singer Valerie Cassar, known for her work with the Iron Maiden Tribute band as well as Oblique Visions and Dislost. Guitarist Adrian Mercieca, formerly of prog rock band Sphinx, adds a touch of vintage rock to the mix. Bassist Philip "Bagigu" Camilleri, who has played in numerous bands, is currently performing with Valiantis, Rock Troupers, and the Iron Maiden Tribute band. Andre’ Schembri, who was with Ivory Cross, now plays keyboards for Stoned, a Rolling Stones tribute band. Drummer Luciano Borg, also an ex-member of Ivory Cross, brings a rich history from bands like Kraken (which also included Philip ‘Bagigu’), Scimitar (with Lega on guitar), and Frantic (with Ivan Filletti, Andrew Alamango and Andrew Sultana), and has a reputation as the guitarist for Syndrome (with Chris Spiteri vocals and keyboards, Jonathan galea on bass, and Fabrizio Giorgio on drums). The name "Rogue" was suggested by Luciano Borg, who explained, "Rogue means 'an unprincipled person with savage or destructive tendencies.' We thought the meaning was appropriate to the band being wild and destructive in nature." Luciano and Adrian began the band by jamming in a garage, eventually inviting others to join. "Luciano and Adrian started jamming in a garage and eventually they asked me to join, and we started having fun with some covers. Then, when we felt there was something to build on, we called in Andre’ and Juan. The chemistry between us was always great, and for a long while, we just had some fun in the garage until we decided it was time to make the step and go live. Which we did last Saturday at The Garage alongside the mighty Rankin, whom we thank for the opportunity, as it was originally their gig and we just butted in at the last moment", Philip confessed a few days after the gig! The crowd for the night was one of the largest and most enthusiastic that The Garage has seen this year. Despite Rogue's debut consisting only of covers, the audience responded with high energy and enthusiasm. When asked about composing original music, the band expressed interest but cited current time constraints. "We do have a lot of parts here and there that can lead to some original songs that we think can be quite interesting. However, at the moment, everyone is tied down with other matters and we feel we do not have the time required for composing proper original numbers. We do like this to be a fun band for a while but, when the time comes, I am sure we will again make another step forward and start composing our own songs. Ideas are plenty.” Adrian added, “I would make it a little more clear that yes, we intend to start working on some original material in the future, but for now - as you said - the focus is to beef up the repertoire, headline a few more gigs, gel together all the more and then we'll be working on our own material of which we have quite a bit (at least speaking for myself and probably Andre too).” As for their next gig, Rogue has no specific plans yet but aims to increase their repertoire to at least two hours and headline their own show soon. The event, organised by The Garage and Rankin, featured a stunning headlining performance by the latter, whose set combined bluesy influences with the thumping rock/metal sounds of legends like Motörhead and Down. They delivered a heavy dose of groove metal with touches of sludge, thrash, and alternative rock, playing songs from their debut album "Chrysalis" and debuting two new tracks from their upcoming album, 'Rage' and 'Midnight Caravan,' the latter being freshly finished just days before the performance.

Mirage, a Maltese rock group, holds a unique place in the island’s musical history. Active from 1977 to 1987 and then reuniting in 2011, the band’s legacy is one of resilience, innovation, and a deep passion for music. Formed by four teenage students at St Aloysius College in Birkirkara, the group originally called themselves Brainstorm. Influenced by progressive rock bands like Yes and Rush, the original line-up consisted of Robert Longo on guitar, Jon Vella Zarb on bass, Denis Vella on keyboards, and Joe Zammit on drums. In 1982, Mirage released their debut cassette album, For Absent Friends, recorded at Rodo Studios in Ħaż-Żabbar. The same year, they staged a grand concert at the Republic Hall of the Mediterranean Conference Centre. During this period, Mirage invested in one of Malta's most advanced P.A. sound systems, which they made available for hire to other bands. This venture eventually led Jon Vella Zarb and Denis Vella to form The Sound System Co. Ltd., offering professional sound services throughout the rest of the decade. The band underwent lineup changes over the next two years. Twanny "Najju" Muscat, formerly of The Rifffs, replaced Joe Zammit, who left to join Fog. Additionally, Mike Spiteri joined as the lead singer. This new formation released a double A-side single featuring the songs In An Empty House and Factory Girls, recorded at Smash Studios in Fgura. These tracks marked a shift from progressive rock to the synth-pop sound prevalent in the 1980s. That same year, Mirage won the Festival Internazzjonali tal-Kanzunetta Maltija with Kompjuter, a song written specifically for them by composer Ray Agius and lyricist Alfred C. Sant. By the end of 1986, Mirage saw further changes with Laurence Baldacchino on drums and Mario Ellul as lead singer. Mario Ellul, born on 8 September 1963, studied at De La Salle College in Cottonera and at the New Lyceum in l-Imsida. During his time at the New Lyceum, he joined Xandir Malta as a student worker and soon became a full-time producer-director. At Xandir Malta, Ellul produced and directed some of the most innovative Maltese programs and TV shows, including Arzella and Mill-Garaxx. In the early 1990s, Ellul left Xandir Malta and joined BPC, where he was responsible for building a new TV studio in Ħamrun for Audiovision, a subsidiary of BPC. He attended a TCV Direction Course in London during this period. Ellul was also a popular singer, actor, and stage director, known for his performances in musicals and TV series. His contributions to Malta's music and television industry were substantial until his untimely death from heart failure in 2004 .   This final line-up of Mirage, including Ellul, released their second cassette album, Garage Technology, in 1987, recorded at Robert Longo's Padded Cell Studio in Gwardamangia. To promote the album, Mirage embarked on The Thin Line Tour, performing at various venues across the Maltese islands. Despite going into hiatus in 1987, Mirage reunited for a one-off gig, with Mike Spiteri, in May 2002 during the 50th anniversary celebrations for Kinnie. The bond between the founding members remained strong, with Robert, Denis, and Jon often meeting to jam. In 2011, they decided to reunite the band with new members. They made a couple of short appearances: in 2016 at The Farsons Beer Festival and in 2017 during the annual Simon’s Pub Music Marathon. Their first headlining gig in years took place at The Garage on September 15, 2017, supported by Colourblind. In 2019 Mirage played again at The Garage on the 29th March alongside X-Tend and later on in the year they were one of the opening acts for the Dream Theatre concert in Valletta. On June 7, 2022, the band returned to their roots at St Aloysius College for a spectacular gig celebrating 45 years of Mirage. In the lead-up to this concert, Mirage re-released For Absent Friends and Garage Technology on Bandcamp on May 14, along with two collections of previously unreleased tracks: Chapter 3, featuring songs intended for a third album, and Four On The Floor, showcasing more commercially styled songs. The current lineup of Mirage includes Robert Longo on guitar, Denis Vella on keyboards, Jon Vella Zarb on bass and vocals, and Jon’s sons Andrew on guitar and vocals, and Michael on drums and vocals. From his early days with The Boys and Cinnamon Hades in Malta to his time with Swiss prog giants Tea and NWOBHM outfit Eazy Money, Storace ultimately found his place with Krokus, who are now celebrating their 50th year in the industry. Since their formation in 1975, Krokus has become synonymous with high-quality, hand-made power rock. With over 15 million records sold worldwide, gold and platinum awards in the USA and Canada, and a Diamond record for selling one million albums in Switzerland, Krokus stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of rock music. As Chris von Rohr, bassist and producer, aptly said, "It's hard to believe, but we celebrate our 50th year of Krokus! We are looking forward to see you live, easy rockers, when long stick goes boom again!" Krokus began as a progressive rock act with their original lead singer, Peter Richard, who left before their debut album. The band faced numerous challenges, including lineup changes and the tragic death of former guitarist Tommy Kiefer in 1986. Their 18th studio album, "Big Rocks," released in 2017, featured covers of classic rock songs, paying homage to the bands that influenced them. Despite announcing their retirement in 2018, Krokus planned a farewell tour that was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of 2024, Krokus is back on the road, celebrating their 50th anniversary. The current lineup includes Marc Storace on lead vocals, Fernando von Arb on lead and rhythm guitars, Chris von Rohr on bass, Mandy Meyer on lead and rhythm guitars, Mark Kohler on rhythm guitars, and Flavio Mezzodi on drums. Growing up in wartime Malta, Tony sought refuge in underground shelters by day and immersed himself in Valletta’s vibrant jazz scene on Strait Street by night. In 1942, he formed one of Malta’s first jazz trios with friends Frank Camilleri and Joe Curmi, mentored by African-American jazz musicians. Despite the limited opportunities in Malta, Tony moved to London to further his career, eventually joining a European tour with Billy Eckstine and becoming a sought-after session drummer. His collaborations include work with legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sixto Rodriguez, Donovan, Alan Price, and Paul McCartney. The documentary requires funding for several key elements. Licensing fees are needed for iconic tracks Tony performed on, like Donovan’s "Sunshine Superman" and Hot Chocolate’s "You Sexy Thing." Additional funds are required for historical footage from sources such as the BBC and Kinomaster, animated sequences depicting scenes from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and new B-roll footage capturing essential visuals. Voice actors will provide narration to bring the story to life, and sound design will ensure comprehensive editing, mixing, and mastering. At 96, Tony’s memories are fading, making this project urgent to document and celebrate his remarkable story. It is a fact that Malta's first rock opera originated in 1974. The press conference held in Sliema at the "Midas" hotel, on July 5th, 1974, marked the launch of Malta's inaugural Rock Opera titled "Dream?" The event, which took place at the Manoel Theatre, was a significant moment for Maltese music history. The following are excerpts of the press release as reported by the day’s press: ‘Three talented young Maltese musicians, David Agius, Joey Chircop, and Anton Grech, all well-known figures in the local rock music scene, unveiled their ambitious project. Scheduled for October, the Rock Opera comprising entirely original compositions by the trio, the production promised to be a groundbreaking endeavor. During the press conference, attendees learned of the stellar lineup of Maltese vocalists set to participate in the Rock Opera. Notable names included the internationally acclaimed Maltese singer Jon Lukas, the frontman of Malta Bums "Bayzo," and Renato, who had recently made waves at Cantasud. Mr. Joey Chircop, one of the masterminds behind the Opera, shared insights into its origins. He revealed that the project's inception dated back to 1970, during the twilight days of the group "Cinnamon Hades". It all started when ‘Frustrated’, was written by Joey Chircop, then the organist of the band “The Boys” (later known as Cinnamon Hades). When the band came to an end in November 1971, Joey decided to concentrate on writing songs. He discussed the idea with Anton Grech, also former guitarist of The Boys and Cinnamon Hades, and they both agreed to work on developing the song into a stage production. David Agius was approached to assist, given his prior collaboration with Joey in composing other songs. Over the course of two years, the thematic material of "Frustrated" underwent extensive development, eventually evolving into the Rock Opera titled "Dream?" or "Din Holma?" in Maltese. The Opera delved into social issues, addressing some of the most pressing concerns of contemporary society during that time. In addition to the principal vocalists, a choir comprising adolescents would accompany the performance, adding depth and resonance to the musical journey. The unveiling of Malta's first Rock Opera marked a pivotal moment in the country's cultural landscape. With its innovative approach and thought-provoking themes, "Dream?" promised to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact on the Maltese music scene.’ After completing all the music and lyrics, efforts were made to cast singers for each character and recruit friends and family to form a choir. Rehearsals commenced in a garage in Fgura. Simultaneously, arrangements were made to secure a conductor for the music. Maestro Joe Vella, renowned as one of Malta’s most esteemed conductors, was approached for the task. A meeting was organized at his residence in Attard, during which the songwriters outlined their vision. Initially hesitant, Maestro Vella was won over upon hearing excerpts of the musical played on his piano, and he agreed to orchestrate and direct the music. In addition to securing a conductor, the production team needed a director. Given his previous collaborations with TV Director Mario Ascione, Joey suggested approaching him for the role. Mario readily accepted the responsibility, collaborating with Maestro Joe Vella to devise a plan for staging the musical. As announced at the press conference, Jon Lukas was originally approached for the main role. Regrettably, due to prior commitments, he had to withdraw from the production after a few rehearsals. Subsequently, Enzo Gusman was promptly approached to take over the main part, a role he embraced wholeheartedly. At its core, the story line revolves around a young boy who, was marooned on a deserted island after his family’s yacht was shipwrecked. There on the same island he was found by a sailor (Ben), who, he himself, was marooned and alone for so many years before. After twenty years living together, in solitude, Ben passes away, leaving the boy alone. Dreamer was sentenced to remain on the island, never experiencing life with his fellow man. He was a virgin to the world. Here is where the opera begins: ……with the character of Dreamer, kneeling beside Ben’s grave. Overcome with despair, he eventually falls asleep and begins to dream… Dreamer: “I’ve got a picture in my mind of you Ben. I won’t forget you for some time. If ever I will. Or better still, I will keep you in my heart, So, it will never die……… ……At the end Dreamer turns to the Audience and asks: “What can I do? What can I say? Can it be true? What I’ve dreamed here today?” The performances took place on Friday, October 4th, Saturday, October 5th, and Sunday, October 6th, 1974. The attendance varied, with Friday's show filling three-fourths of the venue, Saturday's reaching full capacity, and Sunday's also selling out, with a significant crowd gathering outside hoping to purchase tickets. Regrettably, due to the theatre being fully booked until the end of the year, the production could not be extended. Despite this, the three young composers managed to make a profit of 30 Maltese pounds after covering all expenses. With the singers, choir and dancers generously performing for free, the profit was used to treat all participants to a meal. Laura Bruno Triumphs at 48th L-Għanja tal-Poplu Festival Laura Bruno has clinched the top prize at the 48th edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu with her soulful rendition of "Għażiża". Held at the iconic Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta, the festival showcased some of Malta’s finest musical talent. Bruno's winning performance of "Għażiża," composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas, also earned her the prestigious Enzo Gusman Award for Best Interpretation. The poignant song reflects on a mother's enduring love and the hope that she remains a guiding presence even after death. The competition was fierce, with 120 submissions narrowed down to just 16 finalists. A panel of expert judges, along with audience votes, determined the winners. Florence Aquilina's self-written piece "Namra" secured the second spot, while Dario Bezzina's "Fissidni," which he both wrote and performed, came in third. Aquilina was further honored with the Best Singer-Songwriter Award for her work on "Namra." The award for Best Social Theme went to Lon Kirkop for his powerful song "Straight," which delves into his personal experiences as a gay man. In addition to the competitive categories, the organizing committee honored veteran singer Renato Micallef with the ‘L-Għanja li Tibqa’ Award, recognizing his lifelong contribution to Maltese music. Micallef performed "Bizzilla bil-Ġebliet," a composition by Dominic Galea with lyrics by Ġorġ Saliba, to celebrate his decades-long career. The 48th L-Għanja tal-Poplu once again highlighted the richness of Maltese music and culture, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating next year's event. Zabbeth, spearheaded by the multi-talented Chaos, has been captivating audiences since its inception in November 2021. Chaos, who prefers not to boast, is indeed the mastermind behind the project. He wrote, recorded, mixed, mastered, and designed the artwork and all layouts for Zabbeth’s first album. Chaos also played all instruments except for the drums and handled the same responsibilities for the upcoming split release. This time around, the artwork for the split was crafted by Shaun Farrugia, and of course contributions from Vaulderie for their songs. Despite these collaborations, Chaos remained at the helm, mixing and mastering all the material in the split. Known for his decade-long tenure leading the local band Red Electric, Matthew has contributed to the music scene by writing three albums with the band, crafting several award-winning songs for other artists, and touring across Europe. Now, he is set to present his first solo album. "As my job involves writing songs for other artists, I usually prioritize the songs I write for myself second. But now the time has come to share the work I created for myself," Matthew said. "Paradise," the first single from his upcoming album "Ashes to Ashes," captures the essence of escaping the hectic pace of daily life to find a serene haven with a loved one. The single, produced by Howard Keith and Matthew James, and mixed and mastered by Howard Keith, has been available on all streaming platforms since August 1st. The full album "Ashes to Ashes" is slated for release this September, marking a significant milestone in Matthew's illustrious career. Dominic Grech was born on the 3 of April 1950 in Victoria, Gozo, and is best remembered as the main singer-songwriter for The Tramps, Gozo's most celebrated pop band. Born and raised in Victoria, Grech showcased his musical talents early on, participating in local festivals and joining his first vocal group, The Rosebells. He later formed a beat group called Gemini 5, which paved the way for his most significant musical venture: founding The Tramps in the mid-60s. The Tramps made their initial studio recordings in 1974 and soon became known for their international tours, performing in countries like Canada and Australia. Dominic Grech composed numerous songs for the band, with "Xemx" and "Għawdex Inti Djamant" standing out as two of the most famous Maltese songs. In the 1970s, The Tramps rose to prominence with their hit song "Xemx," released in 1975 under the Circle label by R. Brizzi. The song's lyrics and music, crafted by Grech, have endured in popularity, becoming the signature tune for the Gozitan television program "Għawdex Illum." The single's B-side featured "Lilek Irrid," with lyrics by Emmanuel Ellis and music by Grech, also featuring the Gozitan singer Spiro Sillato. In 1976, the band released another single, "Kif Qatt Nista" and "Tfulija," under the Canadian label Duke's Town, produced by Jo Debono. Dominic Grech was one of three brothers who played instruments with the Leone Band Club of Victoria. His musical journey began with The Rosebells, where he performed alongside his brother Alfred and friends from the neighborhood. Even in this vocal group, Dominic and Alfred occasionally played their band club instruments. During his student years, Grech formed Gemini 5, a beat group that eventually evolved into The Tramps. Managed by George Said, known as Id-Dias, The Tramps recorded their first studio tracks in 1974 with a lineup that included Grech (lead vocals and guitar), Joe Cassar (keyboards and vocals), Spiro Sillato (vocals and bass guitar), and Carmel Portelli (vocals, drums, and percussions). The Tramps' international tours began in 1974 with performances in Canada, followed by another tour in 1976 and a subsequent tour in Australia in 1981. The band's popularity in Gozo and Malta was unparalleled, with "Xemx" and "Inti Djamant" being among their most successful recordings. "Xemx" remained a beloved song for decades, even performed by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Ivan Grech at the annual Rockestra with a musical arrangement by Josef Debrincat. While "Inti Djamant" is not officially Gozo's anthem, it is cherished as such by many Gozitans. In 1981, The Tramps won the Festival Internazzjonali tal-Kanzunetta Maltija with "Sinjur Ġib il-Paċi," a song performed during Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Malta in 2010, accompanied by Dominic's sons Richard and Mark. Beyond music, Dominic Grech managed Exotique's Gozo outlet for several years and owned the Arzella restaurant in Marsalforn. He was married to Pauline née Ellis, and they had four sons: George, Richard, Christian, and Mark. The Tramps' last public performance took place in December 2004, continuing their tradition of Christmas gigs in Victoria for about twenty-five years. Dominic's final performance was at the Nazarene Church in Sliema, where he played with his sons Richard and Mark during a prayer meeting. Dominic Grech passed away at 55 years old at the Gozo General Hospital after a prolonged illness. His legacy was celebrated on October 2019 during the Lovin Music Awards ceremony, where The Tramps reunited for a one-night-only performance of "Xemx." Accompanied by Maltese vocalists Federica Falzon, Amber, Claudia Faniello, and Nicole Frendo, the band's iconic track resonated with the audience, enhanced by historical images projected onto large screens. In recognition of Dominic Grech and The Tramps' contributions to Maltese music, Calypso Radio 101.8FM initiated an online petition on March 2, 2020, advocating for the Gozitan group to be honored with Ġieħ ir-Repubblika and for "Inti Djamant" to be officially recognized as the song of Gozo. A bandcamp.com advert for a band called Mnajdra definitely got my attention.  Being a history buff and a lover of metal, my first thought was, how on earth have I missed this Maltese band?  Though very rich in history, Malta is a small island right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and everyone knows anybody else in the local metal community.  Curious on how this secret was so well kept I delved further and noticed that the band was based in the United States of America.  Having inquired with local guru, DJ Noel Mifsud, who also had no knowledge of Mnajdra, I took it up on myself to contact the band and here is what the band spokesperson had to say: Musically speaking, Mnajdra basically formed from leftover ideas of other projects. I've got a lot of other things I do and ended up with a pile of incomplete songs and parts that didn't seem to fit anywhere else. They were good ideas that I liked quite a bit so I decided to start something new to see where those songs could go and if they could gel together. That's why the first album has a bit of variety in it. The mix of black, death, doom, etc. In terms of the name Mnajdra and the concept of the material, I've visited Malta a few times and absolutely love everything about it. The culture, history, architecture, temples, all of it. Malta has a such a mysterious nature about it that gets overlooked by the bigger and more talked about ancient cultures like Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Vikings, and so on. I thought it would be fun to explore Malta's ancient temple period for lyrical inspiration and sort of fill in the blanks of who the builders may have been and imagining what their gods were like and what the purpose of everything was. Initially it was going to be just a one-off album but it ended up going over incredibly well with the people that heard it. One music writer gave it his album of the year nod which blew my mind. So at that point I figured why not do more? Malta has such a rich history the ideas of where it could go are endless. Ancient Malta's culture of goddess worship is fascinating so I decided to explore that next, hence the second album being titled In the Name of the Goddess. The songs touch on various goddesses and female figures that are associated with the islands either historically or mythologically. The challenge of the second album was actually intentionally writing music from scratch that fits the same sound since there weren't any leftover ideas to pull from again. So in that regard I feel like this new album sounds more consistent with itself since it was written all together with intent. There is one leftover track titled The Lady of Verdala that will pop up somewhere sooner than later. If the second album goes over well and grows the audience then I'd like to think we'll do more. We've worked with Fiadh Productions for CDs and cassettes on both albums but we've yet to land a vinyl deal. The band member identities are being kept anonymous for now to let the project stand on its own. Well, that is quite the story.  It makes me think of how for granted, we Maltese, sometimes take our own history. The first album, which is self-titled, includes eight tracks and was released on May 1st, 2023 via Fiadh Productions.  It is themed around Malta’s prehistory as the song titles attest: 1.       The Worshipping Stones 2.       Giantess 3.       Under Earth 4.       Place of the Echo 5.       Disorder 6.       Sleeping Lady 7.       Illumination 8.       Golden Gate of the Ecliptic The album can be found as a digital version and was issued both on cd’s and cassette. On April 5th, 2024 the band released their single ‘Bastion’.  This was followed by another single ‘At Earliest Dawn’, released on May 31st, 2024. The second full length album is set to be released on August 9th, 2024.  Entitled ‘In the Name of the Goddess’, it will consist of eight tracks, including the singles released earlier this year. 1.       Mouth of the Wind 2.       Bastion 3.       Anna Perenna 4.       The Maymuna Stone 5.       Oracle Chamber 6.       At Earliest Dawn 7.       Calypso 8.       For the Son of Bat, the King This is another rendering to Maltese history and mythology.  It’s a fascinating way to make history known through extreme, yet beautiful music.  The magnificent bay of Fomm ir-Riħ; the island’s unassailable bastions, dating back to the period of the Knights of St. John; Anna Perenna and the last track ‘For the Son of Bat, the King’, both have connections to Malta through Virgil’s Aeneid.; the Maymuna Stone, a beautiful 12th century tombstone found in Gozo; the mysterious underground burial place of the Hypogeum , with its magnificent Oracle Chamber; At earliest dawn is a translation of Ogygian (Calypso’s island) and Calypso is all about the nymph, that had her adobe on the island of Gozo.   Well, if you want to learn about the fascinating history of Malta and are allergic to books, here is your chance, courtesy of Mnajdra.
