The Areola Treat < Back The Areola Treat are an alternative rock band from Valletta. The band formed around 2006, and are inspired by US-based, late 1970s art punk, science fiction novels, William Burroughs and Edgar Allen Poe. Gut-wrenching female screeches, screams and punchy drum beats to discordant, drone harmonies that seem to develop into rich walls of sound. They have since then launched an EP and 3 albums, in 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2014 respectively. They are back with a whole lot of new music set for release in 2023 in the form of 7 singles as well as an EP and Double Album. Red Town Baby will be available on all major streaming platforms on launch day with no physical release. Hemplifier < Back HEMPLIFIER is a Stoner/Doom band consisting of Emanuel Portelli (Thy Legion, Victims of Creation, Pilgrimage, Animamortua), Bażaż (Lady Lizard, R.A.S.) & Dino Mifsud Lepre (Victims of Creation, Pilgrimage) – HEMPLIFIER ‘joint’ in 2019. All 3 members have experience & have been playing in other bands before, whilst also still active presently in other bands apart from HEMPLIFIER, with some of them have been in the scene from the ‘90s. The trio’s target was to jam, get high, compose the heaviest riffs possible, have a good time & send seismic waves to the planet while aboard their spacecraft! HEMPLIFIER worship Amps & Vintage Gear! The band’s lyrical themes are that of sci-fi, aliens, the supernatural, occult, voodoo, weed, giants & a touch of local folklore & myth. They are also the organizers of the only Stoner fest on the island which goes by the name of Reeferfest! The band’s debut gig was at the aforementioned Reeferfest on the 3rd of December 2021 & it was a total success! Both the festival itself & the set they played got an amazing feedback! Before their debut gig, HEMPLIFIER released 3 songs they had recorded & filmed live in their own garage in August 2021 which they named ‘Frequencies from Another Dimension – Live from Our Rehearsal Spacecraft!’ and which they also got an incredible response for. This was filmed by Nicholas Bonello from Bonello Media & was released on the 4th of November 2021 on the band’s own YouTube channel. HEMPLIFIER ‘s debut album ‘The Stoner Side of the Doom’ was recorded live during September 2021 at the local Cornerhouse Studios. Recording, mixing & mastering was done by Daniel Bezzina. The album consists of 6 tracks (4 songs + intro & outro) from which 1 track, with the name of ‘Weedcraft’, they have already released as a single on the same YouTube channel of theirs on the 17th of November. ‘Weedcraft’ got also a very good response & was shared by many others such as the renowned 666MrDoom with which they reached almost 1.5K views! The band recently sealed a deal with renowned Italian label Electric Valley Records to release their debut album ‘The Stoner Side of the Doom’. Scarlet Pimpernel < Back Scarlet Pimpernel, a band originating from the scenic town of Mellieha in Malta, was officially formed in 2019. However, the roots of the band can be traced back to 2014 when Chris and Jessica Grech, the founding members, became a couple. United by a shared love for music, their casual jamming sessions evolved into a more focused endeavor, culminating in the formation of the band. Jessica Grech serves as the vocal powerhouse of the band, contributing not only her voice but also her skills in lyrics and songwriting. Chris Grech is the versatile backbone of the band, handling multiple roles from playing guitars and bass to songwriting and production. Together, they create a unique blend of dark vintage rock, heavy rock, and blues rock, drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Rattles, The Doors, and Moody Blues. The name Scarlet Pimpernel is more than just a label; it's a symbol that encapsulates the essence of the band. Inspired by a flower known as 'harira hamra' in Maltese, which has become increasingly rare, the name reflects the band's affinity for nostalgia and vintage elements. The flower's faded orangey-red hue further complements the band's aesthetic and musical style. Musically, Scarlet Pimpernel aims to convey a range of emotions and themes. Their songs often exude a dark yet nostalgic vibe, touching upon various subjects from folk tales and historical events like the gruesome episode of 1551, to more universal life experiences that offer a message of encouragement. In terms of discography, the band has been quite active since its inception. They released singles "March of the Trolls" and "Breaking the Spell" in 2020, followed by "1551" in 2021, which also saw a music video release. Their self-titled album, released in 2021, received nominations for Top Album (Non-Maltese language) and Top Music Video (Non-Maltese language) at the Muzika Mod Iehor ma' Toni Sant (MMI 2021). While Scarlet Pimpernel has not yet ventured into collaborations as a band, both Jessica and Chris have individually contributed to other musical projects. Atomic Flame < Back Atomic Flame is a heavy metal band that was formed in 2022, rising from the ashes of other bands and the chaos of CoVid 19. The band comprises of four members, Lawrence Baldacchino, Nigel Buttigieg, Charles Buttigieg, and Marco Mule. In 2021, Lawrence Baldacchino, an experienced drummer, and Campos Gellel, a talented guitarist, met up to jam with the intention of forming a heavy metal band after their previous stints in bands like Fire and 12th Ode for Lawrence and Angelcrypt and Blind Saviour for Campos. The demise of Noogie's Crew in October 2021 provided an opportunity for Lawrence to approach Nigel "Noogie" Buttigieg, who accepted the invitation. With the band still incomplete, the search was on for a bassist, and in December 2021, Charles Buttigieg joined the band. Charles brought with him the lyrical talent that completed the band's musical ideas and formed them into songs. In July 2022, Campos Gellel left the band, leading to the band being renamed as Atomic Flame. The band quickly found a replacement in the form of Marco Mule, who hails from Sicily and has experience playing with bands such as Ricercados. On January 21st, 2023, Atomic Flame made their debut at The Garage in Zebbug, playing to a sell-out crowd of enthusiastic fans who came to witness these talented musicians back on stage. < Back Jake Azzopardi Bassist | Keyboardist Jake’s musical journey began at the age of five with piano lessons, later picking up the bass guitar at eight. His first performance on bass also took place when he was eight years old. Today, he is pursuing bass guitar diplomas alongside advanced piano exams. His musical interests lie in jazz, funk, and fusion, and he looks up to bass virtuosos Jaco Pastorius and Victor Wooten, whose styles align with his own musical preferences. With RELOAD MT, Jake enjoys performing for large audiences, expanding the band's repertoire, and composing original music. He recognizes the band’s steady improvement since their debut and appreciates the enthusiastic support of their growing fanbase. Looking ahead, he aspires to see the band continue to evolve, gain more performance opportunities, and release original music. Jake is particularly looking forward to their Early Garden gig since it could open doors to more opportunities and could help solidify the band's name. Different Light < Back Different Light were formed in Malta at the end of 1994 by Trevor Tabone, Mark Agius Cesareo, Richie Rizzo and Trevor Catania. Loads of gigs were played throughout 1995 and an early version of 'In the Grey' was recorded for a compilation album.’ All About Yourself ', the band's first album, was recorded in April 1996 and released in June of the same year. The band spent the rest of the year touring Malta to promote the album. Mark Agius Cesareo left the band in early 1997 and was replaced by Jeremy DeMaria and the band supported 'Fish' (ex Marillion ;) in September 1998. A mini-album (EP) called ‘ A Kind of Consolation ’ was released at the end of 1999 with David Cassar Torreggiani on guitars. At this point, Different Light split up and so ended the first chapter. Fast forward to 2008, Trevor Tabone decides to reform the band in Prague CZ, together with Hynek Kocourek and Petr Lux. With the help of Daniel Charron and Premek Matejovic, an album entitled ' Icons that Weep ' is recorded and released in November 2009. The next three years are spent playing live together with new members Jirka Matousek, Bill Etheridge and Brian Reagan. In early 2015, a compilation album called ‘ Il Suono della Luce ’ is released, which includes the best material from the first three albums plus one unreleased track. With the departure of Bill Etheridge and Brian Reagan, the band are joined by Petr Matousek and Petr Lux and recording is started on a new album which is slated for a summer 2015 release. The ‘ The Burden of Paradise ’ is released in February 2016 garnering fantastic reviews and fan reaction, selling CDs in over 30 countries around the globe, plus being downloaded and streamed countlessly on Spotify, Itunes, Youtube etc. One highlight in 2019 was a support slot with Nick Mason’s ‘A Saucerful Of Secrets’ in Malta on the 13th of July. David Filak joins the band on drums in 2022 and ‘ Binary Suns – part 1 (Operant Condition) is released in February 2020 and is the first part of a double concept album which will be followed by the second part titled 'Binary suns - part 2 (Alternate reality)' in May. The band's name comes from the fact that their recording practice studio is situated just in front of a public garden in the South of Malta. They are influenced by 70s and 80s rock artists such as Toto, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Queen, Santana, and the Rolling Stones. Chellcy Reitsma Band Federico Peltretti < Back “if any artist has the capacity to inspire change, it’s Chellcy Reitsma." - A&R FactoryChellcy Reitsma is new to the music scene but not to the stage; a true artist in eavery capacity. Based in Malta the Dutch-American former dancer-choreographer originally from California, USA; began her musical journey in 2015 after a multitude of dance injuries forced her to find a new passion. Since her first single release in 2016, she is now a full-time singer-songwriter, visual artist and poet. 11 single releases, a 4 track EP, 7 music videos and 4 poem videos later, she has developed her own unique fusion style with a retro edge that blends and blurs the lines between a myriad of genres from blues and Alt-rock to Rockabilly and Americana seamlessly. As a visual artist she graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, IL in 2004 and has had numerous exhibitions since. Her 2020 project 'Desolate Days' hit the Top 20 Music Video Charts in Malta, combines both her music and visual art practices in her first stop motion animation lyric video drawn in charcoal and digital art.
