- Different Minds
Different Minds Charisse Agius < Back Different Minds is a local pop rock band. It was originally formed more than 20 years ago but the band's ambitions were cut short because all instruments and sound systems were stolen from the garage they used to hire for reherseals. The original single 'I Can Change' was recorded during that period but eventually it was released 20 years later, when in Summer 2019 the founding members - lead singer Robert G and acoustic guitarist Jason Mizzi - decided to regroup Different Minds again. Former keyboardist Elton Abela joined as well. Jeff Hailey on lead guitars, Godwin Debono on bass guitar and Julio Quintero on drums are the new members for this 6-men band. A total of 6 original singles were released by Different Minds. 'Across the Borderline' in 2020 and Helping Hand in 2022 are their most popular songs and both made it to the top places in the PRS Malta Airplay Chart and 'L-Aqwa 20 - Klassifika tal-Maltin'. The latest single 'Different Not Less' was released in April 2023. The band gig's are also popular for all-time pop rock cover versions. - Miguel Ángel Sarmiento, Guitars
< Back Miguel Ángel Sarmiento Guitars facebook.com Born in Colombia, Miguel's journey began in a household steeped in metal influences thanks to his father's passion for the genre. Even as a young child, his connection to metal was evident, with memories of mimicking Death songs like "Spirit Crusher" by the tender age of 4. At 14, Miguel's move to Spain from Colombia didn't diminish his metal passion, nurtured by his father's influence. At 16, he explored guitar and bass, joined a couple of spanish underground bands, facing the challenge of no electric guitar, Miguel finds flamenco guitar one of his influences since he discovered the guitarist Paco de Lucia. At 19, Miguel struck out independently, becoming a self-taught musician. With guitar and bass in hand, he embarked on a determined journey, honing his craft through dedication. Iceland became his stage for skill development, engaging in bands amidst fjord landscapes. In summer 2020, Miguel's adventurous spirit led him to Malta after the quarantine lifted. There, he got to meet and collaborate with great musicians. May 2023 marked a turning point, Miguel joined a jam session during the Nuts Motorcycle Club charity event in Birżebbuġa along with Steve Lombardo and Francesco from Sonic Storm that led to an invitation. Francesco was captivated by his bass playing and adaptability during the event, and two months later, an invitation to join Sonic Storm followed. However, the spot that awaited Miguel in Sonic Storm was as their guitarist. Enthusiastically accepting, he solidified his place through rehearsals, fulfilling a lifelong dream of being in a thrash metal band, influenced by his father. Deep gratitude resonates within him, directed toward Francesco, Paul, and Karl for welcoming him into Sonic Storm. Thanks also go to Steve Lombardo, who introduced him to Francesco and Lilith Macabre from Luciferi Regnum who encouraged his participation in that fateful jam session at the Nuts Riders Club charity event in Birżebbuġa, the 2 catalyst for his incredible journey. On May 5th, 2024, at Rock The South, death metal band Halcyon unveiled Miguel as their second guitarist. Discography Date Title Type Listen Member of : Follow the artist

- About Us | Melodija
Our Story The idea of Melodija came into our mind through a life experience followed by a brief moment of realization. One of our founders once attended a gig and genuinely enjoyed the performance of the bands there. She tried to purchase the merch of her favorite bands through their website and social media only to learn that most of them needed a digital presence. This led her to realize how hard it must be for local bands and artists to grow without a platform to promote their work. While so many local musicians struggle to establish their name and earn appraisal through years and years of hard work, there are hardly any platforms to empower their talent. That’s when the concept of building a digital space as Melodija.eu originated. Our Vision Founded by a group of like-minded music enthusiasts, Priscilla, James and Noel, Melodija.eu is the digital hub for anything related to music. We are an online community that provides local music artists a platform to unleash their creative potential and showcase their talent to the world. We aim to support and uplift local bands and musicians and make them feel their voices are being heard. Through putting efforts into building a solid digital space, we envision a future where local bands and artists of Malta emerge and gain recognition. We strive to create a platform where you can effortlessly discover old and new musical bands, learn about different artists, view performances and events, stay updated with the latest news and releases, find recording studios and rehearsal garages, shop musical instruments and bands’merch, and much more. We are on our way to creating a surreal world of music that you can’t help falling in love with. Thus, we want to become the go-to digital space for music lovers, known for empowering local music and talent. Meet the Team Noel's journey in the music industry began in the early '90s, marking the start of a decades-long career driven by a passion for rock and dedication to Malta's music scene. Starting as a co-presenter on the "Rock Café Rock Show" at One Radio from 1991 to 1993, he laid the foundation for his multifaceted career. As the resident DJ at Harlequin Rock Club in Paceville from 1992 to 1994, Noel became a pivotal figure in Malta's vibrant nightlife, setting the stage for his future endeavors. In 2009, Noel expanded his influence by founding Sensible Noise distro and co-founding Prog The Islands, initiatives aimed at promoting Maltese talent and progressive rock. He managed and advised bands such as Twenty-Six Other-Worlds, Sepia, and Colourblind, offering his seasoned insights to guide their musical journeys. His passion for radio broadcasting was reignited with "Rock Moods" on One Radio, showcasing local music talent since 2009. Noel's contributions to the Maltese music industry are extensive. He organized charity events like Rock For Haiti and celebrated milestones with the Mirage comeback and the X-Tend 35th Anniversary Show. His work in event organization and music journalism, including judging at the Malta Music Awards and contributing to the Malta Doom Metal Festival, has left a lasting impact on the industry. In 2021, Noel joined Melodija.eu as an Advisor, Administrator, and Content Contributor. In this role, he engages with artists to feature their bios and merchandise, writes press releases, and updates the community on the latest Maltese music news. Noel's efforts at Melodija bridge the gap between artists and audiences, ensuring the preservation and celebration of Malta's rich musical heritage. Through his dedication and passion, Noel has played a pivotal role in nurturing and promoting Malta's local music scene, making it more accessible and vibrant for all involved. His journey through the Maltese music industry is a testament to his enduring commitment and the significant impact he continues to make. Priscilla's musical journey began in childhood, serenaded by the radio and notably shaped by Noel, a family friend. He introduced her to iconic bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden, sparking a passion for music that would define her future. Attending local gigs and festivals, often with Noel and his wife, Priscilla was immersed in the Maltese music scene's talent and energy, inspiring the foundation of Melodija. Melodija's inception was fueled by a moment at a 2021 festival when Priscilla sought a band T-shirt, only to find limited online presence for Maltese artists. This realization drove her to create a digital space to showcase and make local music more accessible. With Noel's industry connections and James's strategic insights, the trio turned the concept into a reality, overcoming challenges to engage artists and the community. Priscilla's role at Melodija is multifaceted, focusing on keeping the platform dynamic and engaging. She oversees website maintenance, content updates including events, merch, and artist profiles, and manages social media to promote local talent. Behind the scenes, she analyzes traffic and coordinates with artists to enrich the user experience. Her vision for Melodija is to establish it as the ultimate hub for the Maltese music community, offering everything from band member recruitment to resources like instrument shops and music teachers. Priscilla aims to enhance accessibility and support within the music scene, embodying her passion and commitment to Maltese music. From the beginning, James showed a strong talent for business and a deep love for music, especially Maltese Rock & Metal. His work in the music industry is characterised by thoughtful planning and a strong dedication to supporting local artists. As the manager of bands like Frenzy Mono and Nomad Son, James has been key in helping gain international recognition. His passion for music is also shown by his frequent attendance at concerts and festivals in Malta, (before he had children ) where he deeply engaged with the local music scene. This direct experience gave James a thorough understanding of the music scene's needs and desires, driving his efforts to help it grow. Besides managing bands, James has been important in organising events and has been a central member of the Malta Doom Metal committee. James's work with Melodija started when Priscilla introduced her initial idea. Seeing the potential in her concept for a website for Maltese artists, James quickly helped broaden the project. He was crucial in adding the events calendar feature to Melodija, which has become very popular among users for finding music events in Malta. As a pivotal figure in shaping Melodija, James continues to lend his strategic insights and business savvy to the platform. His forward-thinking has not only enhanced Melodija's features but also ensured its sustainability and relevance in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. James's contributions are a testament to his belief in the power of innovation and strategy to foster a vibrant music community. Today, James is still a major force at Melodija, always looking for ways to enhance and grow the platform. His goal for Melodija is to make it a comprehensive centre that not only highlights Maltese artists but also acts as a guide for the local music industry. Reach out to us Get In Touch. - Dawn of Anguish
Dawn of Anguish unknown < Back Dawn of Anguish is a heavy doom metal band formed in 2008. The band employs down-tuned guitars to create the heavy atmosphere found in contemporary doom metal music while at the same time injecting sombre elements from diverse musical lineages. Amongst others, the musical direction of the band follows the likes of Doomshine, Place of Skulls Trouble and Wall of Sleep. The inception of the band dates back to early 2008 when Efrem and Simeon first started discussing the possibility of a side project. The two were brought together through common acquaintances in the local metal community and while other musical commitments severely damaged the initiation of their project, their common goal held both of them interested in the idea of forming a new band. Meanwhile, Alex and Efrem had been habitually rehearsing together with a number of different line-ups and as soon as they teamed up with Simeon in early 2008, the three were able to start working on the material that was to become the band’s first songs. Although having initially briefly experimented with a number of musical styles, the musical direction of the three-piece line-up quickly gravitated towards the ‘Doom Metal’ genre. The musical style of the band continued to strongly consolidate itself in short time by mid-2008 when the final elements of the band were successfully brought together. During this time, Andrew and Gregory were brought in to fulfil additional guitar and bass duties respectively. Having all the necessary tools in place for the pursuit of their musical vision, the five formed Dawn of Anguish. The band successfully entered its first year of being with a strong presence in the local live scene having played to relatively sizeable audiences and having participated in a number of important events within the local metal scene. The band has since been periodically involved in events such as ‘Malta Doom Metal’ festival, as well as the ‘Xtreme Metal Assault’ festival and ‘Doom Metal Assault’ events. Overall the band has played in three editions of the Malta Doom Metal festival (2009, 2010, 2013) as well as two editions of the Xtreme Metal Assault festival (2010, 2012) which together represent the largest events related to the ‘underground’ heavy metal genre of music in Malta. During such events as well as other shows in Malta and Gozo, the band has played alongside notable bands in the genre from a number of countries such as Reflection (Greece), Contradiction (Germany), Doomshine (Germany), Dark Quarterer (Italy), and The Prophecy (UK) to name a few. In September 2012 the band entered a collaboration with French company ‘Two-Notes audio-engineering’ whose hardware and software products represent a tool that us very well aligned to the band’s live needs and especially more so for the various stages of the creative and recording process. Efrem uses the ‘Torpedo Live’ which is permanently lodged in his lice rack while also using it during the recording process, whereas Andrew uses the ‘Torpedo Reload’ for recording. Both guitarists also use the ‘Wall of Sound III’ plug-in from Two-Notes. A short video showcasing some of the band’s songs and recordings using the ‘Torpedo Live’ can be found here In January 2013, Simeon also entered a collaboration with the then Exodus Cymbals company which he used on the recording of the band’s first release, Prologue in Black Band Members Alex Carachi Vocals Alex Carachi Gregory Calleja Bass Gregory Calleja Efrem Arpa Guitars Efrem Arpa Andrew Attard Guitars Andrew Attard Simeon Gatt Drums Simeon Gatt Discography Date Title Type Listen Buy the band's merch Follow the band Previous Band Next Band
