Rogue < Back Rogue is an electrifying new band that brings together a diverse array of musical talents. The lineup includes singer Juan Xerri from Animamortua and backing singer Valerie Cassar, known for her work with the Iron Maiden Tribute band as well as Oblique Visions and Dislost. Adding a touch of vintage rock is guitarist Adrian Mercieca, formerly of the prog rock band Sphinx. The rhythm section features bassist Philip "Bagigu" Camilleri, who currently performs with Valiantis, Rock Troupers, and the Iron Maiden Tribute band, and drummer Luciano Borg, an ex-member of Ivory Cross with a rich history in bands like Kraken, Scimitar, and Frantic. Andre Schembri on Keyboards, formerly with Ivory Cross and now with Stoned, a Rolling Stones tribute band, completes the lineup. The name "Rogue" was suggested by Luciano Borg, who explained, "Rogue means 'an unprincipled person with savage or destructive tendencies.' We thought the meaning was appropriate to the band being wild and destructive in nature." The band's origins trace back to jam sessions between Luciano and Adrian in a garage. They eventually invited other members to join, fostering a strong chemistry and a shared passion for music. After honing their sound with covers, they made their live debut at The Garage, sharing the stage with Rankin. This debut performance marked the beginning of their journey, characterized by high energy and a raw, powerful sound. Scarlet Pimpernel < Back Scarlet Pimpernel, a band originating from the scenic town of Mellieha in Malta, was officially formed in 2019. However, the roots of the band can be traced back to 2014 when Chris and Jessica Grech, the founding members, became a couple. United by a shared love for music, their casual jamming sessions evolved into a more focused endeavor, culminating in the formation of the band. Jessica Grech serves as the vocal powerhouse of the band, contributing not only her voice but also her skills in lyrics and songwriting. < Back Kelly Busuttil Vocals Kelly Busuttil is a mezzo soprano- singer / songwriter (Genres: Rock, Metal, Progressive, Alternative, Rock and Roll, Soul) Maltese, born in Belgium, Kelly immediately fell in love with music while following the band of the family’s next door neighbour. She started formal vocal lessons in Malta at age five. This early love for music has led her to perform in Malta, Italy and USA. Her past experiences include performing at the ‘Beland Music Festival’, ‘Farsons Beer Festival’, ‘Malta Marathon’, ‘Strummin’, ‘Mumenti’ and as backing vocalist for the maltese band ‘The Crowns’ at the Valletta New Years Eve Celebrations. She has been nominated for the Upcoming Artist award in Malta in 2013 and in 2017. Kelly carried on with her vocal studies in Rome, taking on Trinity College examinations in Rock and Pop Vocals, while studying guitar, and performing for the school in various events. She was trained by a professional IVA vocal teacher who has helped her improve her skills in improvisation, breath control, belting and using her middle voice. While in Rome, she collaborated in the creation of a song anthem for Montesacro Roma Basketball Club. Amongst other music gigs, she also had the opportunity to sing at Piper Club in Rome, which was once Italy’s most famous music venue , hosting Nirvana, Genesis, Pink Floyd, David Bowie and many more. After her experience in Rome, Kelly went back to performing at various events in Malta and also got involved in some studio work for other artists. In the meantime she started giving singing lessons and music exploration lessons to children. In 2021 Kelly moved to Milan, Italy and started performing in pubs and weddings (Genres: pop, italian, rock n roll, soul, jazz). In 2022 she joined the band Monkey Riot in Milan, Italy and started writing lyrics and recording the Rock Metal album THE CIRCLE. Here she started exploring her rock screaming voice more than ever before and completely fell in love with the genre. She is just back from the USA, which has been a unique adventure to promote the album with guitarist Fabio Carraffa. < Back Atari James Vocals, Guitars Atari James is a session musician, songwriter, music producer and instructor, having collaborated with several artists and bands since 1999. He started his career as a session bassist for many years where he had the opportunity to network with many great talent in Malta and abroad. In the last five years he then moved on to form a number of projects, the latest being South Garden where he assumes the role of vocalist and guitarist. Under the tutelage of Thomas McRocklin and Ben Higgins, Atari James became heaviliy influenced by 80s shred rock and is particularly interested in 80s synthwave. In 2021 he opened a YouTube channel where he demonstrates various guitar techniques used in rock and metal. In 2022 Atari James produced and released a single for Maltese rock artist, No Garden One Dragon. Atari James is now working on a solo instrumental project combining electronic music and shred guitar. This project will be released soon on his social platforms. < Back Steve Muscat Vocals Modern Tribe Photography Before Joe (Costa, Guitars) was invited to join up with Ascendor, he had been jamming with Steve and two other Gozitan musicians (who later formed the Classic Rock band ‘Upper Lip’). While the band had been on what seemed the impossible task of looking for a Metal frontman, Joe mentioned he was jamming with a vocalist who “loved Metal, has a Phil Anselmo-ish voice and was covered in body art”. This mouth-watering description led to the guys inviting Steve for an audition. No auditions needed; as soon as Steve picked up the mic, everyone knew he was the ideal guy to front the band. The band’s decision of giving Steve the frontman’s role was further proved as the correct one when he started writing lyrics for the band’s original tunes. Steve is also an experienced musician, having fronted ‘Sacratress’ as well as playing the keyboards for ’Malevolous Cadaver’, both Gozitan Metal bands active in the 1990s. Steve also spent a number of years in the USA where he fronted the American band ‘Scarred’ with whom he managed to play the Legendary CBGBs. < Back Dean Montanaro Bass Dean Montanaro, born in 1994 in Malta, is a highly versatile electric and upright bass player currently based in Rotterdam. His musical journey commenced at the age of 10, when he delved into the world of electric bass, later immersing himself in jazz and improvisational music. Throughout his formative years, Dean honed his craft by engaging in creative collaborations with trios and exploring collective composition in various dynamic setups. In 2017, he made a pivotal move to the Netherlands to pursue his passion for music further. Dean's dedication and talent culminated in his graduation with honors from the bachelor's program at Codarts Rotterdam in 2021, followed by the completion of a master's degree in jazz electric bass at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2023, achieving an exceptional final score of 9.5 out of 10. During his educational journey, Dean had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of esteemed bassists such as Gary Willis, Stefan Lievestro, Mario Rossy, and Glen Gaddum, as well as receiving guidance in composition and arranging from notable mentors including Amit Gur, Oscar van Dillen, and Reinier Baas. Dean's diverse musical projects showcase his innovative approach to music. From the jazz sextet Antares Flare, blending afro-beat and electro-psychedelic influences, to his own project, Mipa & the Best Language Ever, featuring a unique fusion of musical and literary elements, Dean's artistry knows no bounds. Thirteen Years Later < Back Thirteen Years Later is a new local band that consists of Jeanelle Newell, Gianni Saliba, and Andrew Muscat. Back in 2007-2009, Jeanelle and Gianni formed part of the band Uncharted, while Andrew guitared for Eve Ransom. The trio first attempted to form a band back in 2010, but due to personal commitments, it never materialized. However, in 2023, after thirteen years, they decided to give it another shot. This time, determined to make it work, they managed to put together a number of original songs within just a few months. August saw them head into Corner House Studios where they recorded their first single, which is set for release shortly. Killerwitch facebook.com/Killerwitch.Malta < Back Killerwitch began when guitarists Jeremy, and Owen (Sacro Sanctus/Ex-Viper Soup Complex) and bassist Gino (Characters) decided to carry on with music together after their former band 12th Ode disbanded in 2018. Luke (Mur.Doc 104) and Claudio joined the band on vocals and drums respectively in early 2019, thus the band line-up was complete. With most of the members being new as well as having taken a different musical style than 12th Ode, it was decided that the band should focus on entirely new material, and thus Killerwitch was officially born. The band started recording their debut album in early 2020, which was officially released later in November of the same year. It was shortly after the release when Killerwitch had to part ways with their original drummer Claudio in 2021 and recruited Gareth (Ex-Hecate Enthroned) in 2022, once again completing their line-up. Killerwitch's debut gig was in May 2022 supporting Pilgrimage, followed by several other gigs that same year alongside Midnight Priest, Angel Martyr, Forsaken and Storace amongst others. < Back Nadine Axisa Singer Nadine Axisa is an established versatile singer, with a passion for smooth jazz, latin, swing and soul music. She received vocal training in classical singing at a young age and discovered her love for jazz music through the performance in clubs and bars in her late teens. Nadine studied jazz classics, attended and followed a number of workshops with acclaimed tutors including Tina May, Iain Mackenzie, Guillermo Rozenthuler, Donna Mc Elroy, Dennis Montgomery III and Anne Peckham. She later pursued her studies at the Malta School of Music with Joe Debono. Nadine released her debut album 'Velvet' in 2014 featuring twelve original tracks, mostly composed by Maltese composers and authors in the smooth jazz style. The album also involves a collaboration with two musicians from Germany and Italy. The album received favourable reviews including a four-star review on the UK's Jazz Journal. Moreover, it was featured on Maltese and international radios; the latter include www.virginiamusic.eu 'Mainly jazz' on Alive 107.3fm (UK); RTP Play (PT) and Channel Radio (UK). She was also interviewed and performed live on Jazz FM (UK). In March 2016, Nadine performed 'Velvet in concert' in collaboration with a quartet consisting of local musicians. In December 2019 she released her second album, “Il-Ħoss tal-Għabex”, which involves the reworking of Maltese tunes, most of which were published in the 1970s and 80s. The tunes were taken through a process of re-imagination, a journey involving experimentation from a melodic, harmonic, rhythmic and sonic perspective. The album received several favourable reviews whilst being awarded best album in Maltese in the Malta Music Awards 2020. Since September 2021 she is presenting a jazz radio show on Radju Malta 93.7fm, Malta’s national radio station, with the name ‘Nadine’s Jazz Boutique’. The show is also available online as a Podcast. She performs regularly in local jazz venues and has also performed outside Malta in numerous jazz events and festivals, including Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, Berlin, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Austria and Egypt.
