  • Eyes to Argus: Expanding Sonic Boundaries

Eyes to Argus is a Maltese band crafting an immersive blend of atmospheric indie, post-rock, shoegaze, and ambient influences. Their music is a delicate balance of the familiar and the experimental—melancholic yet uplifting, introspective yet expansive. Over the years, they've carved a distinct sonic identity that resonates deeply with both local and international listeners. Eyes to Argus Debut Gig - Django Jazz Bar 26th February 2016 / photos Facebook The band is made up of Samwel Mallia on guitar and vocals, Ben Mifsud Joslin on bass and vocals, Robert Farrugia on synthesizers and piano, and Samuel Attard on drums and percussion. Since their formation, Eyes to Argus has evolved steadily, using each release as a chance to explore new emotional and sonic terrain. Their journey began with VEER  (2017), a debut album composed of songs written between 2012 and 2016. It served as a foundation for the band to explore different sonic paths while striving for thematic cohesion. This was followed by Microcosm  (2019), a standalone single that introduced a grittier, more charged direction, while still preserving the band’s signature atmospheric textures. photo: Elisa von Brockdorff In 2021, they released in habit  via Post. Recordings. This concept album delved into the meaning of shared spaces and the stories they hold. Each of the six tracks symbolised a different room in a house and was paired with an artwork created by a local visual artist, further deepening the album’s emotional and spatial exploration. Two years later, the band invited reinterpretation with habit_at  (2023), a remix album featuring seven collaborators who re-imagined tracks from in habit , highlighting the band’s openness to experimentation and community-driven creativity. With Reroot  (2024), their third full-length album, Eyes to Argus reflected on the threshold of a new decade in their lives. Written and recorded as the members approached their thirties, the album grapples with the balance between youthful drive and the onset of burnout. The release was marked by a celebratory launch show on October 19, 2024, at The British Legion in Valletta—a moment of both reflection and re-invigoration. Live performance has always been central to the band’s identity. Eyes to Argus has graced many of Malta’s most notable alternative festivals and has shared the stage with acclaimed international acts like Mokadelic, Staghorn, and Yndi Halda. In 2018, they partnered with fellow Maltese band Fuzzhoneys for a UK mini-tour titled "Eyes On The Hive," with stops in Manchester, Bristol, London, and Sheffield. Their growing international presence also took them to the US, where they played a string of shows that tested their resilience and adaptability. Reflecting on the experience, the band noted the contrast between the excitement of new audiences and the unpredictability of unfamiliar venues and logistics. Despite the challenges, they found the experience profoundly rewarding, underscoring the importance of trust, flexibility, and connection in live performance. Around and about the USA / photo: Samwel Mallia Back home, they continue to foster their relationship with fans through regular social media engagement and traditions such as their annual End-of-Year playlist. In December 2024, they reflected on the creative process behind Reroot  and shared a playlist of their favourite releases of the year, inviting fans into their sonic world beyond their own music. As they gear up to perform at the 12th edition of Rock The South Malta, one of the country’s premier alternative music festivals, Eyes to Argus reaffirm their role as a staple of the Maltese indie and post-rock scene. With each project and performance, they continue to challenge themselves and expand their creative horizons, offering music that is as emotionally resonant as it is sonically adventurous. photo: Sam Falzon For more updates, follow Eyes to Argus on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/eyestoargus

  • Essential Gear for a Gigging Bassist

I've recently been asked to write about bass-related subjects, and I thought a great place to start would be with gear. Over the years, I’ve learned that being a gigging bassist means more than just showing up with your instrument—it's about being ready for anything. Whether it's a pub gig, a wedding, or a festival stage, the gear you bring can make or break the experience. A well-prepared bassist not only plays well but also inspires confidence in bandmates and organisers alike.   Key Items to Have:   Reliable Bass – Your main instrument should be dependable and comfortable to play for long periods. Make sure it’s properly set up with fresh strings and functioning electronics. A backup bass is wise in case of string breaks, battery failure, or unexpected issues mid-gig.   Amp or DI Solution – Depending on the venue, you might need a portable amp, a DI box, or both. Many modern bassists use preamp/DI pedals that provide tone shaping and a clean signal to the front of house. Know your setup and have it ready to go. My go-to preamp/DI is the Aguilar Tone Hammer.   Pedals – A good tuner pedal or clip-on tuner is non-negotiable. Add a compressor for dynamic control, and perhaps an overdrive or envelope filter to shape your tone. Bring only what you need, and make sure your pedalboard is clean and functional.   Cables & Power – Faulty cables can ruin a gig. Bring high-quality cables, patch leads, and spares. Don’t forget extension cords, a power strip, and power supplies for your pedals.   Strap & Strap Locks – A padded strap helps reduce fatigue during long sets. Strap locks are a small investment that can prevent your bass from falling mid-song.   IEMs or Earplugs – Protecting your hearing is essential. If you don’t use in-ear monitors, use high-fidelity earplugs to reduce stage volume while maintaining clarity.   Spare Strings/Batteries – Keep a set of spare strings and fresh batteries for active pickups or pedals. Store them in your gig bag so they’re always on hand.   Setlists/Charts – Whether on a tablet, phone, or printed, having access to your music helps avoid mental blanks. Apps like forScore or iReal Pro are useful tools.   Tool Kit – A basic kit should include a multi-tool (with screwdrivers and hex keys) zip ties, string winder, and a microfiber cloth.   Sturdy Gig Bag – A well-padded gig bag or hard case protects your bass in transit. Look for one with compartments for accessories and shoulder straps for easy carrying.   Final Thoughts   If you're just starting out, don’t feel pressured to own everything on this list. Build your gear inventory gradually, as your playing situations and experience grow. Even owning just the basics shows that you’re serious and dependable. The more tools you have at your disposal, the better prepared you'll be—and the more likely you'll land the gig. simonsammut.com Buy Simon Sammut's music here on melodija.eu

Nomad Son Tease Long-Awaited Return with New Album in the Works Doom metal band Nomad Son appear to be stirring once more, igniting speculation among fans about an impending return with a new studio album. On April 6, 2023, keyboardist Julian Grech posted a photo of himself alongside his brother, guitarist Chris Grech, in a recording studio. A special limited edition t-shirt will be available on sale to commemorate the event. "It's easily one of the most beloved songs by our fans. It's also probably the very first pure thrash metal song written in Maltese and we're sort of really proud of that!" said Mur.Doc 104's drummer Oliver Farrugia.  Released as a single during the peak of the COVID pandemic, "Insolenza" was the band's response to keeping the band active during the restrictions. "We never intended for it to be political but the frustration and social anxiety of the time were palpable and we wanted to express that rage and frustration through our music. Not being able to meet as a band for months on end was painful" concluded Oliver. The track was written in 24 hours and recorded in less than a week. The single was later included as a bonus track in the physical edition of the EP "The Undying". Insolenza can also be found on all major streaming platforms. The event is being organized by Mur.Doc 104. Active since 2015, the local quintet is known for their fierce yet melodic rhythm sections, versatile drumming and powerful vocals. They have made a name for themselves by giving energetic live performances in events such as the Malta Doom Metal Festival, Metal over Malta and the Farsons Beer Festival amongst others. In March of 2023, they released their debut EP titled "The Undying" receiving major positive reviews from both the local and international press. This event is for both metalheads and not. Photo by Matea Blazhevska Maria Borg’s musical journey began at just five years old, when she started studying classical piano—a path that led her to earn a Licentiate diploma in pianoforte by the age of 14. She went on to complete a Bachelor's degree in Music Studies at the University of Malta in 2018. During her university years, Maria’s passion for music expanded beyond classical roots, delving into genres like jazz, metal, rock, and pop. She became one of the founding members of the band Delirium, performing at various local venues including Teatru Salesjan, Zion Reggae Bar, and The Garage. Influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd, Tigran Hamasyan, Elton John, and Billy Joel, Maria’s sound reflects a blend of depth and versatility. After stepping down from Delirium in 2024, she launched her solo career under the name Maria Bea, releasing her debut single in March 2025. We caught up with Maria to talk about her journey so far, her musical inspirations, and what’s next. Here’s what she had to say: NM : Everybody knows you as Maria Borg. Why did you choose Maria Bea to release your debut solo song under? Why Bea? MB : Well to be honest, having one of the most common names in the country is not so useful when you are any kind of artist, and so I wanted to create a solo artist 'profile' for myself that's more unique. but also relates to those who know me as well, and so Maria Bea came to be. The name came from simply, my acronym MB, I used Maria since of course everyone knows me as Maria, but since Borg is extremely common, I used the B sound to create Bea. Nothing too deep honestly! NM : What inspired you to compose this solo piano instrumental, and what does it mean to you personally? MB: This single is a solo piano instrumental made up of four main sections. This piece means a lot to me personally, as it represents the hardships I've been through. 6 years ago, I lost someone very precious to me, the person who was my role model growing up. It led to a long writers' block honestly, it's not that I didn't write any music, it's just that everything I wrote at the time seemed like it wasn't good enough or felt like a nuisance next to what I was going through. NM : Why did you choose the title 'Released' for your single, and how does the music reflect the emotions behind it? MB: This past year though, I decided to let go of some toxic connections and try and listen to what I, Maria wants, rather than what everyone around me wants me to do. This is precisely why the single is called 'Released' - releasing old emotions, old negative thoughts, and just letting go - moving forward instead of being stuck. The piece has got 4 quite contrasting sections which start off softer and calmer, but gradually build up to a grander ending. The last section is my favourite personally, as it really felt like I let everything out there with the suddenly loud dynamics and busier texture in the music. It also adds a bit of a surprise for the listener with a busy bassline - a lot of people think of the piano as a very gentle and elegant instrument. It is, but it can also be very robust and aggressive when it wants to be. NM : What was the reaction ‘Released’ got so far and are you happy with it? MB: At the moment I have got good feedback from listeners but am working on spreading the news more so that more people will hopefully listen to it. Some people closer to me have told me the feelings and vibes they got from the piece, and I was very glad to hear it made sense with the inspiration behind writing it and what each section kind of meant to me as well. Some people gave me less serious answers such as 'It gave me a vampire up in a castle vibes' which is always appreciated haha! While others gave me a more in-depth explanation with the general consensus being that it involves a lot of tension and release and clearly represents some intense turmoil/emotions. cover artwork NM : Is this the beginning of a solo project, are we to expect more songs and ultimately an EP or album? MB: Yes, this will be my ongoing solo project, to be honest I have been composing for a while but I'd like to do it in a more organised way now. I'm planning on releasing an EP - the timeline is still a bit shaky but ideally by early next year. NM : Does this composition take you back to your roots and your musical studies and was this intentional? MB: Honestly, this was one of the easiest pieces for me to write. It flowed really naturally, and the ideas came to me really easily, it's not really the norm for me as I'm a bit of an overthinker which gets in the way when you're writing music frankly. I am trying to let my ideas flow at the moment to see what comes out and am not limiting myself to a specific genre. In this case, this piece was more on the Contemporary Classical side, but that's not necessarily what I'll be writing going forward, I'd like to experiment more with electronics as well. And so, I would say this did reflect on my formal training, but also that probably anything I write is going to reflect on my roots and formal training. But in this case, it was not intentional, I began coming up with different sections, and I did not really feel it needed more elements for this particular piece, as it was very much around my personal experience of the last 6 years, so I felt solo piano would be the perfect way to describe that. I'm not really a person of many words, I speak when I have something valuable to say, and I believe that reflects in the music I write as well. NM : Can you give us any sneak peeks in what we expect next? MB: I would say more experimentation going forward, I'd like to get more comfortable with singing and would like to have at least one of the songs on the EP with my vocals on them as a personal challenge so you can definitely expect more music upcoming, this is the kind of project where I'm playing by my own rules and going with what feels right musically. • OutBound Debuts with “Nothing Comes Easy” – A Testament to Their Journey

Alternative rock band OutBound  has officially made their mark on the music scene with the release of their debut single, Nothing Comes Easy . The title is more than just a name—it’s a reflection of the band’s journey, from its spontaneous formation to its revival, and now, its long-awaited first official release. OutBound’s first ever gig on 19-Nov-2022 Founded in November 2022, OutBound came to life following an impromptu gig at Valletta’s Wild Honey Bar—back when it was still nestled in Santa Lucia Street. The original line-up featured Steve Galea (guitar), Catherine Gatt (vocals), Louie Farrugia (drums), and Mikhail Farrugia (bass). Since that night, the band quickly carved out a presence on the local circuit, playing at popular venues including Exiles, La Bottega, Zion Reggae Bar, Crossroads Spinola (now closed), Front Gozo, Thirsty Barber, and the Corinthia Hotel, among others. Drawing inspiration from iconic acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, The Police, The Killers, and U2, OutBound has built a dedicated following through their vibrant performances and growing social media presence. The band’s creative roots trace back to a humble rehearsal space—affectionately known as “Nannu Mike’s” basement in the heart of St. Julian’s. It was in this space that the band bonded over jam sessions, covers, and songwriting, including the creation of their very first original track: Nothing Comes Easy . OutBound’s Current Line-Up - Steve, Louie, Catherine, Matthew (Left to Right) However, the road to their debut wasn’t without its bumps. Following a busy summer of writing and performing, the band disbanded due to internal disagreements, particularly after declining a recording opportunity in September 2024. But music has a way of pulling people back together. In February 2024, OutBound reformed with a refreshed lineup—Steve Galea, Catherine Gatt, Louie Farrugia, and new bassist Matthew Drago—ready to breathe life into their creative vision once again. Recording resumed with producer Chris Gatt, alongside the band members themselves as co-producers. Once completed, the track was sent across the Atlantic to acclaimed mixing engineer Matt Wallace, best known for his work on Maroon 5’s Songs About Jane . Wallace praised the track for its “muscular and melodic, powerful sound.” The final touch came from Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Dave Collins, who mastered Nothing Comes Easy , bringing the song to a world-class standard. OutBound’s Single Release Cover Art The single officially dropped on March 19, 2025, and is now available on all major streaming platforms. A music video has also been released on YouTube, visually capturing the spirit and perseverance behind the track. With bold instrumentation and an unforgettable chorus, the track encourages listeners to stay committed to their goals despite adversity. It’s a sentiment that’s sure to resonate with many navigating their own creative or personal journeys. OutBound describes the song as “a sensational, catchy radio track that stays true to our sound while delivering a meaningful message.” The band is back in the studio working on future releases, promising more collaborations with Wallace, Collins, and producer Chris Gatt in the months to come. • The Rise of Cross-Genre Collaborations: A New Era in Music

One of the most exciting shifts in music today is the rise of cross-genre collaborations. Artists are breaking down stylistic barriers, blending different sounds to create something fresh and unexpected — and it’s changing the way we experience music.   Picture jazz meeting hip-hop or classical rhythms weaving into rock grooves. These unlikely pairings are not just pushing creative boundaries — they’re also connecting with a wider audience by appealing to fans of multiple genres. Recent collaborations have shown how artists from different backgrounds can come together to create music that defies labels and resonates across diverse communities.   A recent article from Toxigon highlights how these partnerships often start with a simple spark of inspiration, leading to groundbreaking tracks that captivate listeners worldwide.   At its core, cross-genre collaboration is about stepping outside of comfort zones, exploring new sounds, and forging deeper connections with listeners. It’s a growing movement — and an exciting time to be a music fan.   On that note, my album Visions of Transcendence embodies this spirit of blending styles and creative exploration. It’s available in various formats, and I’d love for you to check it out here.   Thanks for your continued support of independent music. I’m looking forward to sharing more musical adventures with you soon! Simon simonsammut.com Buy Simon Sammut's music here on melodija.eu

  • Angelcrypt’s ‘Dawn of the Emperor’: A Milestone in Melodic Death Metal

Melodic death metal outfit Angelcrypt unleashed their second full-length album, Dawn of the Emperor , on June 12, 2020, through German label Boersma Records. Marking five years since its release, this record has become a defining moment in the band’s career, showcasing their evolution and cementing their place in the metal scene. The Album: ‘Dawn of the Emperor’ As a follow-up to their 2016 debut We Are The Dead , Dawn of the Emperor  solidifies Angelcrypt’s traditional yet forceful approach to melodic death metal. With influences from the Gothenburg sound and elements of blackened metal, the album delivers an intense listening experience. The band’s lineup at the time of this release featured Jean Cutajar on bass, Paul Formosa on drums, Peter Grech on rhythm guitar, Shawn Mizzi on lead guitar, and Joseph Grech on vocals. True to Angelcrypt’s signature style, the album explores historical themes, particularly pivotal events that have shaped the modern world. Joseph Grech (vocals), Paul Formosa (drums), Jean Cutajar (bass), Shawn Mizzi (lead guitar), and Peter Grech on rhythm guitar. The event explored on this album is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, on June 28, 1914. While traveling in a motorcade through Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, they were fatally shot by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb member of the nationalist group seeking South Slav independence from Austro-Hungarian rule. This assassination set off a chain of events leading to the outbreak of World War I. In response to the assassination, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia on July 28, 1914, initiating a series of alliances and conflicts that escalated into a global war. This album was the last to feature both Joseph Grech on vocals and Peter Grech on guitar, marking the end of an era for Angelcrypt. Following this, Shawn Mizzi took over vocal duties, leading the band into a new chapter. Singles and Reception The album’s lead single, Martyred Soul , debuted on May 1, 2020, and set the tone for the band’s latest sonic assault. German metal critic Edmund Sackbauer reviewed the album, noting that while Angelcrypt doesn’t break new ground in the genre, they offer a solid, well-crafted interpretation of traditional melodic death metal. The combination of crunchy riffs, haunting melodies, and precise drumming makes the record both engaging and memorable. Sackbauer also praised the fluid songwriting and structured compositions, though he noted that a more organic production could have enhanced the sound further. Steel Druhm from Angry Metal Guy  also weighed in on the album, acknowledging Angelcrypt’s ability to craft compelling songs while pointing out occasional missteps. He highlighted tracks like Iron Creed , which exudes a Dark Tranquillity vibe, and the title track, which incorporates mammoth riffs reminiscent of Morbid Angel and Bolt Thrower. However, he criticized certain aspects, such as the dramatic spoken introduction and the raw, unpolished feel of some solos. Despite these critiques, he found Dawn of the Emperor  to be an overall enjoyable and punchy release. Met-Bar Lenzburg 2019 Matthew from Metal Utopia  praised the album’s historical themes, likening Angelcrypt’s style to bands like Sabaton and Ex Deo. He commended the band’s ability to intertwine music and history, with songs such as On Killing Fields  and Martyred Souls effectively capturing the chaos and destruction of war. He particularly enjoyed the anthemic closer, The Black Hand , while also noting a few filler tracks that didn’t leave a lasting impression. Ultimately, he considered Dawn of the Emperor  a solid entry into the melodic death metal genre, though he felt the band played it safe at times. Angelcrypt’s Journey Through the Years Originally formed under the name Rattlesnake, the band rebranded as Angelcrypt in 1997. Their early years saw a series of successful releases, including their debut single Epileptic Lullaby  in 2001, followed by the EP From Abyss to Glory  in 2003. They continued their rise with the single Thou Shalt Die  in 2005 and the EP Echoes of Death  in 2007, both of which are now considered collector’s items. Subsequent releases included Depopulate  in 2010 and Eternal Conquest in 2011, the latter becoming a fan favorite. Their debut full-length album, We Are The Dead , arrived in 2016 and featured a remastered version of Eternal Conquest . Further cementing their reputation, they released The Black Hand  in 2018, followed by Martyred Soul  in 2020, taken from Dawn of the Emperor . Following Dawn of the Emperor , the band maintained a strong presence in the European metal scene, performing at festivals and headlining shows across the continent. They continued releasing new material, including Forever Hero  in 2023, Legacy of War  in 2024, and their latest single, Through Blackened Waters , released on March 19, 2025. With Dawn of the Emperor , Angelcrypt reaffirmed their dedication to crafting melodic, yet powerful metal infused with historical themes and dark atmospheres. The album's artwork, reflecting the band’s interest in World War I, further adds to its immersive appeal. Metalspeck 2019 Despite lineup changes and an ever-evolving sound, Angelcrypt remains a dominant force in Malta’s metal scene. As they continue to push forward with new material and live performances, Dawn of the Emperor  stands as a testament to their enduring legacy in melodic death metal. • The Power of the Low End: How Bass Shaped Modern Music

The role of bass in music has come a long way — and as a bassist myself, I've experienced this evolution firsthand. What started as a supporting element has become a driving force across genres.   In the early days of jazz and classical music, the double bass provided rhythmic and harmonic grounding. Then came the 1960s and 70s — a golden era for bass — with legends like James Jamerson and Carol Kaye crafting melodic, groove-heavy lines that reshaped pop and R&B. I remember studying Jamerson’s iconic Motown grooves, amazed at how his syncopation and phrasing turned simple lines into timeless hooks.   Fast-forward to today, and bass isn't just holding down the low end — it's leading the charge. In funk, slap bass pioneered by Larry Graham added rhythmic punch, while rock and punk saw aggressive, distorted tones from players like John Entwistle and Geddy Lee. In electronic music, sub-bass frequencies create visceral, physical responses — those deep wobbles in dubstep or the driving pulses in house music.   As a composer, I've explored the versatility of bass across my albums, blending influences from jazz, fusion, and world music. Bass isn’t just a foundation in my music — it’s a melodic and rhythmic centrepiece, guiding the mood and feel of each track. If you’d like to explore how bass shapes my sound, you can check out my discography here.   Bass isn’t just sound — it’s a feeling, a connection between the player and the listener. That deep vibration you feel in your chest at a concert? That’s the bass speaking directly to you.   Thanks for being part of this musical journey. "I'm so happy to share this piece with you all," Borg expressed, announcing the release of her latest work. In a heartfelt message, Borg shared the significance of "RELEASED" in her life. "Most people probably won't read this, but this piece really has a special place in my heart. Those of you that know me well, know I'm quite a reserved person and frankly, I'm not one to open up much. However, I have always thought that knowing the background behind a piece helps the listener feel and interpret music in a deeper way." Borg reflected on the struggles she has faced over the past six years, particularly the loss of a cherished role model in her life. "The past six years have been a really difficult time for me, mostly because I lost one of the most precious people in my life, but he was also my role model growing up. This piece represents just that—'Released' as in, letting go of the negative thoughts and difficult times and looking forward." • Unlocking the Power of Music for a Better Life

In our fast-paced world, music is more than just entertainment—it’s a powerful tool for personal growth, creativity, and emotional expression. Today, I want to explore how music enriches our lives, from its therapeutic effects to its ability to inspire and uplift us. For centuries, music has been used as a form of therapy, offering comfort and healing. It has the power to evoke deep emotions, reduce stress, and even enhance cognitive function. Whether you're listening to your favorite album or playing an instrument, music creates a space for emotional connection and inner peace. One of the most remarkable benefits of music is its impact on mental health. Studies show that listening to music can lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) while boosting dopamine, the "feel-good" neurotransmitter. This makes music a natural and effective way to elevate your mood, ease anxiety, and promote overall well-being. But the benefits don’t stop there. Music fuels creativity, sharpens memory, and even enhances productivity. It can serve as a source of inspiration, helping us reach personal and professional milestones with renewed energy and focus. So, the next time you press play, pick up your instrument, or even hum a tune, remember that you're not just enjoying music—you’re embracing a powerful tool for a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life. Keep the music alive, and let it lift you higher! Until next time, Simon simonsammut.com Buy Simon Sammut's music here on melodija.eu

  • ClubMurder Rocks the Stage: A Night of Brutal Metal and New Beginnings

On Saturday, March 15th, ClubMurder once again took the stage in what has become an annual tradition. This year’s event was particularly significant, as it not only celebrated St. Patrick’s Day but also marked the release of their latest EP, History of Gods . This EP serves as the closing chapter of a significant era for the band, as it is the last recording featuring former drummer Steve Muscat. In late October 2024, ClubMurder announced a major lineup change—Steve Muscat stepped down, making way for Victor Hugo Rivera from Halcyon. The band expressed their excitement over the transition: “We are thrilled to introduce Victor Hugo (Halcyon) as the powerhouse driving our new sound forward. After six intense weeks of rehearsals, Victor has reignited our passion, bringing new fire to our performances and pushing us to deliver our hardest-hitting live shows yet.” — ClubMurder Press Release Adding to the momentum, just days before the EP launch party at The Garage, ClubMurder announced another reinforcement—bassist Claudio Toscano (Haine, All Hands Lost, Abysmal Torment) joined the ranks, further strengthening their sonic arsenal. A Night of Pure Metal Mayhem The night kicked off with an electrifying performance by thrashers Grotium, setting the stage ablaze with their signature energy. The setlist featured “Bus From Hell,” a crowd favorite, where the band was joined on stage by Impertex vocalist Kieron Spiteri. Though he admitted on Facebook that he felt “lost without a guitar in hand,”  his performance added a special touch to the night, seamlessly blending with Grotium’s intensity. Grotium photos by Sarah German Of the ten songs performed by Grotium, only two—“Bus From Hell” and “The Four Horsemen”—were from their debut EP Judgement Day , released in March seven years ago. The remaining eight were newer compositions, hinting at an upcoming release that fans can eagerly anticipate. ClubMurder Takes Over ClubMurder photo: Priscilla Spiteri As the night progressed, ClubMurder took the stage, ensuring the energy levels only went higher. Their set was divided into two sections, starting with a full live performance of History of Gods . This decision deviated from the usual practice of mixing new songs into a setlist, but the risk paid off, as the audience fully embraced the raw intensity of the new material. The crowd remained engaged, with no one stepping out for a smoke break—a testament to the band’s gripping stage presence. The second half of their performance revisited fan favorites from previous albums, including Derailed  and Bound to the Underground  from their 2017 self-titled album, as well as Viral, King of the Kill,  and New Low  from 2019’s Massacre Masterpiece . The band’s ability to deliver a flawless, high-octane performance cemented their reputation as one of the tightest metal acts on the island—if not the tightest. This feat is even more impressive considering their drummer has been with them for less than a year, and their bassist for just a few weeks. Looking Ahead ClubMurder photo: Priscilla Spiteri As guitarist David Depasquale stated in a recent interview , History of Gods  is not just an EP—it’s a transition point. It signals both an end and a new beginning, with a promising future for the band and its fans. Known for their relentless energy and ability to command the stage, ClubMurder delivers an explosive live experience filled with intricate rhythms, heavy grooves, and an aggressive vocal attack. Their unique fusion of metal elements creates an intense auditory assault that leaves fans craving more. With their newly solidified lineup and fresh material, ClubMurder is poised to continue their reign of sonic destruction. Whether you are a longtime fan or new to their sound, one thing is certain—this band delivers a show that is not for the faint of heart. Get the EP and Exclusive Merch ClubMurder photo: Priscilla Spiteri While we always recommend getting a physical copy of the release, you can also listen to History of Gods  online: Spotify YouTube Additionally, the band unveiled two new t-shirt designs and a unique memorabilia plaque during the launch event. These exclusive items can now be ordered by contacting the band directly. ClubMurder Lineup: David Depasquale  – Guitars Victor Hugo Rivera  – Drums Claudio Toscano  – Bass Lorenz ‘Wenzu’ Joyce  – Vocals Keith Falzon  – Vocals, Electronics With a well-oiled machine in place, plenty of new material in the works, and an unrelenting passion for metal, ClubMurder is gearing up for even greater things. The only question is—are you ready for what’s next? ClubMurder photo: Priscilla Spiteri
