- Saħħar
Saħħar < Back Saħħar started as the brainchild of Marton Saliba, with a focus on creating harsh and extreme music which coincided with Black Metal. Some of the tracks were raw and blast-beat fueled while others took a more mid-tempo approach while layered with synth and samples, and sometimes a blend in between. Saħħar’s first demo (Genesis of Demise) and album (Maġija Sewda) a year later were received locally and the greater underground scene in the myspace days with varied interest. Following a well-received split (Thine Triumphant Death) and subsequent album which was never truly released, Saħħar went on an indefinite hiatus. It was in 2013 that Saħħar came back with a vengeance with his folklore and mid-tempo and synth-heavy EP (Mera Mkissra). This was followed by a slew of EPs and Albums, averaging a release per year until 2020, the pandemic bringing everything to an unfortunate halt whilst still writing and preparing new music in the studio ready to be released at the opportune time. The album launch of the 2015 Album (Kruha u Kefrija) also marked the first of Saħħar’s live performances, which culminated in Opening/Supporting acts for Destroyer 666, Black Metal Legends Mayhem, and industrial titans Gothminister. During the pandemic, Saħħar was busy recording online shows for Malta's first online stream, Metal Injection’s ‘Slayathome’ series and the online festival Grimfest. In early 2020, Saħħar was nominated in the Malta Music Awards in the ‘Metal’ category and ‘Album in Maltese’ category. In late 2022, Saħħar embarked with a few trusted friends/session musicians on his first tour which spanned 9 consecutive days over 4 countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania) resulting in a thrilling and quite successful adventure. Saħħar is best described as ‘Ruinous’ Black Metal, where it describes his inclusion of larger-than-life symphonies, contrasted with minimal, almost doom-like riffs, all the way up to tremolo-intense barrages to synth/sample ambient tracks, giving a wide range of black metal to be savoured in the 100+ song discography. Lyrical themes vary from occult/folklore fusion to the death of an individual to genocidal to misanthropic cataclysms. At the time of writing, Saħħar is open for booking both locally and overseas and is working on a new album which is tentatively scheduled for release in the 3rd quarter of 2023. As a person, Saħħar maintains a professional no-nonsense attitude while still remaining interactive and appreciative of fans and followers. - Geistmaschine
Geistmaschine Maria Baldacchino < Back Geistmaschine originated from the creative aftermath following Timothy and Michael’s departure from their previous band, Goldstein. They were soon joined by Gabriel in May 2023, and together, they began a new musical journey. The trio, each bringing a unique set of influences and passions, formed a cohesive unit driven by a desire to explore and redefine the boundaries of post-metal music. Timothy, the band’s guitarist and effects aficionado, draws inspiration from the intricate narratives of graphic novels and the expansive sounds of bands like Russian Circles and We Lost the Sea. Michael, the bassist, incorporates his love for cinema and dark, atmospheric music from groups such as Ulver and Mogwai, enriching the band's soundscapes. Gabriel, on drums, brings a blend of grindcore punk and experimental music, adding an unpredictable edge to the music with his noisy, chaotic bursts. The name Geistmaschine, which translates to 'Ghost Machine,' was inspired by the haunting atmospheres of the German television series ‘Dark’. This name holds personal significance for each member, embodying the spirit of their musical and thematic explorations which often delve into themes of loss, intense change, and the vastness of space. Currently, Geistmaschine is preparing for their debut full-length album, focusing on refining their songs and live performances. With aspirations to sign with a record label and tour internationally, the band is poised to make significant strides in the music world, inviting listeners into their evocative and otherworldly sonic universe. - Rogue
Rogue < Back Rogue is an electrifying new band that brings together a diverse array of musical talents. The lineup includes singer Juan Xerri from Animamortua and backing singer Valerie Cassar, known for her work with the Iron Maiden Tribute band as well as Oblique Visions and Dislost. Adding a touch of vintage rock is guitarist Adrian Mercieca, formerly of the prog rock band Sphinx. The rhythm section features bassist Philip "Bagigu" Camilleri, who currently performs with Valiantis, Rock Troupers, and the Iron Maiden Tribute band, and drummer Luciano Borg, an ex-member of Ivory Cross with a rich history in bands like Kraken, Scimitar, and Frantic. Andre Schembri on Keyboards, formerly with Ivory Cross and now with Stoned, a Rolling Stones tribute band, completes the lineup. The name "Rogue" was suggested by Luciano Borg, who explained, "Rogue means 'an unprincipled person with savage or destructive tendencies.' We thought the meaning was appropriate to the band being wild and destructive in nature." The band's origins trace back to jam sessions between Luciano and Adrian in a garage. They eventually invited other members to join, fostering a strong chemistry and a shared passion for music. After honing their sound with covers, they made their live debut at The Garage, sharing the stage with Rankin. This debut performance marked the beginning of their journey, characterized by high energy and a raw, powerful sound.
