Maltese musician Peklektru is set to release the album ‘Għadna Għaddejjin’ on the 5th of February, 2026. The album comprises 9 songs of mostly groove-oriented rock songs with heavy influences of reggae/ska and funk rhythms. A number of songs from the album are being released prior to that date as lyric videos on social media platforms.
Lyrically the songs explore different aspects of life and the human condition, tackling dramatic subjects in an often light-hearted way, and celebrating human resilience in the face of life’s inevitable adversities. Speaking about where ideas for songs come from Peklektru said “I like to look at my role as that of an antenna that captures ideas floating out there. Obviously my own personal imprint is then interwoven in them as they go through me and the artistic choices I make, but anything could start the process, it could be something somebody said, or an observation I make that lingers in my head. The exact place where ideas spark to life remains a bit of a mystery to me”. Speaking about the album Peklektru added “With this batch of songs, I feel like I have found a thematic voice that I feel is distinctly my own. However, the ultimate aim of music is to communicate, so I also like to zoom out of that which makes us individuals and see within it the general, that which is also shared by others in our collective humanity”.
The album was produced by David Vella of Temple Studios and features seasoned musicians Ivan Borg on bass and Michael Briguglio on drums.
Peklektru is the music alter ego of Patrick Galea, co-founder of local band dripht, who previously also operated under the moniker Peklectrick. His debut album ‘Reclaiming Space’ was released in 2007. Following a fifteen-year hiatus away from creating music Peklektru returned in 2023 with the single Ejja Sibni, featuring Brodu singer/songwriter Zizza on vocals. In 2024 Peklektru appeared on a couple of Brodu songs, on their album Kusksu Clan. He released the protest song Mandragreen late in 2025.
