< Back Melissa Portelli Vocals Matt Hush Melissa Portelli is the lead vocalist and writer in the band Chasing Pandora. After her graduation in 2004 she found a job at Tickety-boo, an artist management company which managed comedian Billy Connolly and was owned by Steve Brown, Elton John’s producer for many years. Working as Brown’s PA, her job took an unexpected twist one day when he heard her sing and offered to help her realise her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter. Chasing Pandora was formed in 2006 and their first EP was released that October at a launch concert in Malta. Their single “Feel the Rain” reached the top of the charts in Malta and won “Best Newcomer Award” at the Bay Music Awards. In May 2007, Chasing Pandora released their debut album, “Mocking the Mocking Bird”, receiving great local acclaim. December of that year also saw the band receive 3 Malta Music Awards. Chasing Pandora released the EP “Two” in April 2008. Notably, “Two” featured the popular track “Memories”, which thus far has been a favourite with audiences for years and was nominated for “Best Song” at the Malta Music Awards. Throughout 2008, Mel performed with Chasing Pandora at various concerts around Malta and London, and in November they released their second EP, “Wide Eyed Beautiful”. With the launch of Chasing Pandora’s second full album, “The Driver and the Dancer” in June 2009, Mel performed a series of gigs in London and received positive reviews from “The Fly”, “Acoustic Music Magazine” and “Rock N Reel”. The end of 2009 marked the release of the first Chasing Pandora single to be released in the UK, “Running in Circles”, which was subsequently played on BBC Radio 2 and featured in another week of London-based gigs. The success paved the way for “The Driver and the Dancer” to also be released in the UK in 2010, which was then performed live to a full house at the RoundHouse Music Room, enjoyed a review in The Independent newspaper, and was performed live as part of the Janice Long BBC Radio show. After the release of their fourth EP, “People”, Chasing Pandora were invited to perform at the North by North-East Festival in Toronto, being chosen from 600,000 applicants to be amongst 6,000 bands to perform at the event. Various concerts in Malta followed for Chasing Pandora throughout 2010 and 2011, until the duo disbanded in October 2011. Apart from other projects, such as Ant in Alaska with guitarist Alex Mallia where they release the song ‘Wildflowers’ and her solo EP ‘Mel Xkejfa - Who me?’ recorded with Peter Borg at Railway Studios, Melissa also wrote and performed for Naupaca’s Dance Factory ‘Divina’ , which were shows held at the MCC in Valletta and the Aurora Theatre in Gozo. • Infinite Loop

Infinite Loop < Back INFINITE LOOP is a dynamic Soft Rock ensemble that skillfully integrates intellectually stimulating lyrics, catchy melodies, an array of rhythmic genres, and spontaneous instrumental improvisation to produce an electrifying auditory experience. Their music is not only meant to be enjoyed but also contemplated and in some cases, even danced to. The band's moniker is derived from the monotony of everyday life, which at times can resemble an 'Infinite Loop', and their music serves as an attempt to break free from this repetition. The band was initially founded in the early summer of 2010 by Duncan Borg, the drummer, and Roberto Faure, the rhythm guitarist. The band welcomed Nigel Buttigieg as the lead guitarist in late November 2011, and Gabrijel Mansueto joined as the bassist in January 2012. • Mark Tonna, Singer

< Back Mark Tonna Singer Mark Tonna is a Maltese singer, songwriter, and composer whose musical journey began in the small town of Żurrieq, where he was born on March 13, 1963. His love for music sparked early—at just eleven years old, he formed a school choir and guitar group to perform during mass, laying the foundation for a lifelong artistic career. In the years that followed, Mark explored various musical styles, performing in pop and rock bands—often alongside his brother Claudio—before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist in 1993. His voice and stage presence quickly gained attention in both the local and international music scenes. Mark's debut album Before My Eyes was released in 1996, featuring twelve tracks, nine of which he personally wrote and composed. That same year, he debuted his first original musical Jisimni Katarina, inspired by the life of St. Catherine. He followed it up with Mill-Jasar Għall-Qawmien, a second musical centered around the passion of Christ, for which he wrote both music and lyrics. Throughout his career, Mark has been a consistent presence in Malta's major music festivals. He participated in Kanzunetta għall-Ewropa, the Malta International Song Festival, L-Għanja tal-Poplu—which he won in 1996 with the song Allerġija Għall-Bnedmin—and Konkors Kanżunetta Indipendenza, where he claimed first place in 2000 with Waħdek Ma Tkun Qatt. Mark's talent also carried him beyond Malta’s shores. He represented the country at the Discovery Festival in Bulgaria in 1998, winning the Best International Artistic Performance award. His international performances have taken him to Tunisia, Italy, Dubai, the UK, Turkey, the USA, Canada, and Australia—where he toured with fellow Maltese artist Debbie Scerri, performing for Maltese communities abroad. A versatile performer, Mark has also starred in a variety of local and international musicals, including Ali Baba, It-Tfajla tal-Palazz, Ir-Rebbieħ, and Ħidmietna—a 2013 production commemorating the 70th anniversary of the General Workers Union. For four consecutive years, he was nominated for Best Male Singer at the Malta Music Awards, a testament to his enduring impact on the Maltese music scene. Whether as a vocalist, composer, or lyricist, Mark Tonna has remained a passionate and prolific figure in Maltese music—bringing heartfelt stories to life through song and stage. • Dawn of Anguish

Dawn of Anguish unknown < Back Dawn of Anguish is a heavy doom metal band formed in 2008. The band employs down-tuned guitars to create the heavy atmosphere found in contemporary doom metal music while at the same time injecting sombre elements from diverse musical lineages. Amongst others, the musical direction of the band follows the likes of Doomshine, Place of Skulls Trouble and Wall of Sleep. The inception of the band dates back to early 2008 when Efrem and Simeon first started discussing the possibility of a side project. The two were brought together through common acquaintances in the local metal community and while other musical commitments severely damaged the initiation of their project, their common goal held both of them interested in the idea of forming a new band. Meanwhile, Alex and Efrem had been habitually rehearsing together with a number of different line-ups and as soon as they teamed up with Simeon in early 2008, the three were able to start working on the material that was to become the band’s first songs. Although having initially briefly experimented with a number of musical styles, the musical direction of the three-piece line-up quickly gravitated towards the ‘Doom Metal’ genre. The musical style of the band continued to strongly consolidate itself in short time by mid-2008 when the final elements of the band were successfully brought together. During this time, Andrew and Gregory were brought in to fulfil additional guitar and bass duties respectively. Having all the necessary tools in place for the pursuit of their musical vision, the five formed Dawn of Anguish. The band successfully entered its first year of being with a strong presence in the local live scene having played to relatively sizeable audiences and having participated in a number of important events within the local metal scene. The band has since been periodically involved in events such as ‘Malta Doom Metal’ festival, as well as the ‘Xtreme Metal Assault’ festival and ‘Doom Metal Assault’ events. Overall the band has played in three editions of the Malta Doom Metal festival (2009, 2010, 2013) as well as two editions of the Xtreme Metal Assault festival (2010, 2012) which together represent the largest events related to the ‘underground’ heavy metal genre of music in Malta. During such events as well as other shows in Malta and Gozo, the band has played alongside notable bands in the genre from a number of countries such as Reflection (Greece), Contradiction (Germany), Doomshine (Germany), Dark Quarterer (Italy), and The Prophecy (UK) to name a few. In September 2012 the band entered a collaboration with French company ‘Two-Notes audio-engineering’ whose hardware and software products represent a tool that us very well aligned to the band’s live needs and especially more so for the various stages of the creative and recording process. Efrem uses the ‘Torpedo Live’ which is permanently lodged in his lice rack while also using it during the recording process, whereas Andrew uses the ‘Torpedo Reload’ for recording. Both guitarists also use the ‘Wall of Sound III’ plug-in from Two-Notes. A short video showcasing some of the band’s songs and recordings using the ‘Torpedo Live’ can be found here In January 2013, Simeon also entered a collaboration with the then Exodus Cymbals company which he used on the recording of the band’s first release, Prologue in Black Band Members Alex Carachi Vocals Alex Carachi Gregory Calleja Bass Gregory Calleja Efrem Arpa Guitars Efrem Arpa Andrew Attard Guitars Andrew Attard Simeon Gatt Drums Simeon Gatt Discography Date Title Type Listen Buy the band's merch Follow the band Previous Band Next Band
