< Back Michael Vassallo Bassist Michael Vassallo started off playing the bass at 12 years old, always dreaming of joining a band, he started off listening to metal at the age of 8 or 9 when his dad used to play Iron Maiden and Metallica in the car. After a few years he took more interest in the genre and decided to rediscover metal music. Over the past year or 2 he has been listening to heavier genres mainly thrash and death metal. He joined impertex at the age of 13. The band needed a bassist, and a guitarist (Marta) which Michael knew from before had asked if he wanted to join, he quickly jumped at the opportunity. From then on, he started taking the bass seriously and focusing a lot of his time on the instrument. Impertex started off at as a rock band but eventually the whole band agreed on playing thrash metal, after around a year of playing the vocalist left and Kieron (guitarist/vocals) started sing, and all agreed to have Kieron as the new singer. < Back AnneMarie Spiteri Vocals melodija.eu © Singing for as long as She can remember her love towards music started off from singing along cartoon theme songs on Italian television. Inspired and influenced by bands such as “Nightwish” and “Within Temptation” whose symphonic elements took her into an unlimited world of imagination and fantasy, at 19 years of age she joined a local ambiance, atmospheric, metal band called “Sepia.” Soon afterwards she started to take classical singing lessons with Ms. Antoinette Miggiani, whose years of coaching were necessary and essential into shaping her style. After Sepia got disbanded, she took part in various other musical projects, that formed part of the local underground scene, including “Nisga” a folk world- music oriented band, and “Deluge of Sorrow” - an experimental, atmospheric doom metal band, participating in both mainstream events such as “Ghanafest” and “Notte Bianca” as well as events in the underground scene. In 2015 she joined local symphonic, death and black metal band “Martyrium”. This band provided her with the opportunity to tour and participate in gigs and festivals in: Ukraine, Romania, Italy, France,Slovakia Germany and Belgium. Throughout this time she shared the stage with huge bands and names in the metal scene including: Sepultura, Cradle of Filth and Behemoth. By then Annemarie had also become an event and festival organizer, as ‘Martyrium’ were in talks with different foreign and local bands who participated in their annual local festivals. She is up to this very day in charge of organizing and coordinating the yearly festival “SoundArt Malta” Throughout this time Annemarie was also part of “Viper soup Complex”. At the time the band was occupied with writing new materials for their first album, as well as preparing for live local gigs. By the end of 2017, her time with “Martyrium” had come to an end and “Deluge of sorrow” took a bit of a back seat however “Viper Soup complex” still went and goes on. “Viper Soup Complex” have proudly released their debut album on the 22nd of October 2018. They have so far also been given the opportunity to perform with significant foreign bands (such as “Septic Flesh”) in localfestivals. Between 2018 and the end of 2019 Annemarie toured together with the band in various countries, bringing their music to Poland, Romania,Belgium, Italy and the UK sharing the stage with “Riverside” in March of 2019 amongst others. In 2022 following the pandemic, Annemarie (together with Vipersoup complex) resumed her touring explorations, as the band shared the stage with “Within temptation” in Romania and “Focus” in the UK to name but a few. Together with viper Annemarie is currently focused on the release of their EP and is exploring new musical and theatrical directions through other involvements she has with CentreStage Malta. “Viper Soup Complex” has given her the space to express herself through theatrics, props and choreographies. < Back Melchior Busuttil Drums Michela Aquilina Melchior Busuttil born on 23rd August 1991 he comes from Pembroke. He is a Drummer/ Percussionist, Tutor and Producer/Studio Engineer. Born and raised in Malta, He has been playing drums professionally since the age of 16, and is a highly respected musician and educator, known for seamlessly and creatively merging technical ability with musicality. Melchior studied drums under the direction of the Maltese Percussionist Joe 'Bibi' Camilleri and also studied timpani, xylophone and other percussion instruments at the Malta School Of Music. Apart from Drums and Percussions he also studies music theory and Orchestration under the direction of Annmarie Chircop and graduated with distinction and honours. He is experienced in performing both live on stage, recording in the studio and on TV, with a diversity of artists in a broad range of styles.Not new to entertaining on big platforms, such as Muzika Muzika, Notte Bianca, Eurovision Song Contest, Ġensna, Beerfest/Winefest, Għanja tal Poplu, Kaxxaturi, Concerts with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Teatru Unplugged, the annual Pantomime and other large scale events. Melchior has taken his work, both as a player and tutor, across Europe to countries like Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece, Poland, France, Belgium, and others as well as further around the globe to places like Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. He has been part of the production of singles and albums with Saving Alexis, Cruz, Marc Galea, No Bling Show, Xarulu, Viper Soup Complex, Simon Sammut, Brass house unit, Chordust and other independent artists/bands that have hit the No.1 spot on Malta's most popular radio stations, and also won awards for his hard work at various local Music Awards. Currently playing with some of Malta's biggest bands, like No Bling Show, Brass House Unit, Viper Soup Complex, Palace String Orchestra, Malta Concert Orchestra, Karin Duff and others, in some of the country’s biggest musicals and productions such as Ġensna, Abba Gold, Muzika Muzika, Cats, 1565, Sound of Music, Djamanti Muzikali, Addams Family, etc , and is also affiliated with major foreign drum companies as-well as other sponsors who support his musical endeavours. < Back Aiden Bondin Drummer Aiden’s passion for drumming was ignited by his uncle who is also a drummer and plays with Malta's army together with drummer Dave Weckl, who remains his biggest inspiration. He began playing the drums at just four years old and made his public performance debut at six. Currently, he is pursuing his LLCM diploma in drums. Aiden enjoys exploring all styles of music, balancing orchestral performances with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra alongside his blues and rock work with RELOAD MT. His drumming influences include Dave Weckl and Gene Krupa. Within the band, Aiden thrives on live performances, improvisation, jamming, and playing covers. He describes their past gigs as exhilarating experiences and is super happy that the band always manages to captivate audiences. He expresses his favourite one to be 97 Notes' MUSIC WARS since it was their first competition. He expresses how it was their biggest crowd yet and that he was impressed by how much they enjoyed it. Even tho they didn't move on to the finals he says it was a very cool and exciting opportunity and congratulates the other bands who moved on. Looking to the future, his vision for RELOAD MT includes touring, launching a merchandise website, composing more original material, and playing at major concerts and events. Aiden is particularly excited for their new gigs since new crowds can help them boost the name of their band and themselves as musicians. He has played with numerous bands of different genres over the years and is currently a member of several groups, including BNI, RAS, Sacro Sanctus, and The Rush Tribute Band. Steve has a particular passion for live music, especially for "underground" bands that embrace a DIY approach. He believes that this type of music is where the real passion for music lies, as it is not influenced by external factors such as sponsors, contracts, or anyone telling the musicians what and how to play. Instead, the music is raw, authentic, and heart-felt, and Steve believes that this is how life should be lived. These humble beginnings laid the groundwork for the intense, emotionally charged style of music he would come to love: metal, electronic, and any genre with raw power and emotion at its core. Over the years, Carlo became a fixture in his local music scene, contributing to an array of bands and projects, from "Corrupted" to "Kyoto Jacket" and "Lenient Genies". He even co-wrote a song for an "X-Factor" artist, but his involvement wasn’t always on stage. Sometimes he directed music videos, acted in them, or helped with recording, all in the name of helping local talent thrive. His work with bands like "Decline the Fall", "Colourblind", and "Damaged & Co" highlighted his devotion to fostering creativity and supporting others in the scene. Carlo’s music is a tool for self-expression and healing, both for him and for others. Drawing inspiration from artists like "Korn" and "Reuben", he sees music as a form of therapy- a way to channel aggression, release emotions, and ultimately, become a better person. His passion isn’t just for performing but for connecting with people on a deeper level, helping them tap into their own potential and cope with life’s challenges. A memorable highlight of Carlo's career came when he overcame his stage fright during his first live performance with From Sheep to Wolves. Nervous and ready to back out, it was the encouragement of his friends and family that pushed him on stage. That performance became a turning point, showing him the power of community and the joy of live music. Despite the challenges of breaking into the industry, particularly the lack of support for underground artists from corporate and government bodies. Carlo remains committed to his art. He’s proud of every milestone in his journey, good and bad, as it’s all part of what’s shaped him into the artist he is today. Looking ahead, he’s excited about the future, especially the release of From Sheep to Wolves debut album and the upcoming, even more intense second album. < Back Freddie Portellli Singer Freddie Portelli was born on May 5, 1944, in St. Paul's Bay, Malta. He received his early education at St. Paul’s Bay Primary School and later attended the Technical Institute, where he earned the City & Guilds of the London Institute Standard. Throughout his career, Freddie primarily worked as a draughtsman. Portelli's musical career began over 40 years ago as a member and chief songwriter of the group, The Malta Bums. The group toured America, Canada, and Germany for five months, and upon returning to Malta in 1966, Freddie wrote the iconic song "Viva Malta" followed by "Mur Hallini". His recordings have been released internationally, including in Australia, Canada, America, and England. Freddie also led the legendary band "Black Train", which produced several hit records. Apart from his musical accomplishments, Freddie was an accomplished water polo player. He played for his hometown’s Sirens water polo team as well as Neptunes and Valletta, winning the premier championship with Neptunes in 1964. He also played with Malta's national team, securing the International Independence Tournament cup the same year. Freddie's musical journey began with encouragement from his father to learn the guitar. His first lessons were with Carmelo Muscat, a close family friend. By the age of 13, Freddie was playing in various bands. In the early sixties, he formed The Malta Bums, sharing his musical expertise with the group members. The band underwent several lineup changes, eventually solidifying its members and gaining significant popularity. Initially reluctant to participate in song contests, Freddie and The Bums decided to enter one, reaching the finals despite being the least equipped band. This experience was a turning point in Freddie’s career. In 1973, Freddie founded The Black Train after leaving The Malta Bums. The band quickly became Malta's top local band, performing regularly at prominent venues and receiving international invitations. However, the demanding schedule led Freddie to temporarily put his career on hold. In 2001, Freddie made a successful solo comeback, spurred by encouragement from Martin Schembri and KTA Records. His return led to the release of the double album "Ghall Dejjem", which included a new recording of "Viva Malta" and broke national sales records. Freddie participated in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest three times in the mid-90s and continued to release numerous singles and albums, writing approximately 400 songs over his career. He performed internationally, including notable concerts and television appearances. Freddie married Carmen Darmanin on December 5, 1972, and they have two daughters, Claudette and Yvette. Claudette is a specialist in clinical psychology, while Yvette pursued a career in television and radio before relocating to Italy. Freddie was honored with the Medal for Service to the Republic in 2016 by the President of Malta and received several other accolades, including the golden medal and the Ġieħ San Pawl il-Baħar for his contributions to Maltese music and culture. Reflecting on his life, Freddie expressed contentment with his achievements, from musical success to his career as a draughtsman and water polo player. His legacy continues to inspire many in Malta and beyond.
