Her debut album 'Dream Again' was released on Italians Do It Better in 2021, delivering a fusion of cushioned beats, woozy electronic layers, and messages of hope. Morsrot to play at Wacken & Metaldays Morsrot emerged victorious in the inaugural New Forces (Malta) by Metaldays 2024, hosted at The Garage, Zebbug on March 8 and 9. Additionally, they've secured a spot on the lineup for Wacken Metal Battle 2025, a revelation made by organizer Nick Grima shortly before the competition began. This weekend marks a historic moment in global music as the British NWOBHM band Pagan Altar takes the stage at The Garage, featuring our very own Leo Stivala (of Forsaken and Anchorite) as their front-man for the night. Founded in 1978 by father and son Terry and Alan Jones, Pagan Altar enjoyed activity until 1985. Alongside Witchfinder General, they stand out as one of the few NWOBHM bands to delve into doom metal. Their performances are renowned for their moody, epic compositions, accentuated by stage effects that mirror their fascination with occult themes. Pagan Altar's sole release from the NWOBHM era was a self-titled demo album, later re-released as "Volume 1" in 1998 by Oracle Records. After reuniting in 2004 to record previously unreleased material, the band garnered praise for their 2006 album "Mythical and Magical." In subsequent years, they graced festivals like "Metal Brew" and "British Steel" and continued their creative journey with albums like "Never Quite Dead." Sadly, vocalist Terry Jones passed away in 2015. In 2017, Alan Jones announced plans to partially re-record the album due to dissatisfaction with the original outcome. In 2017 Brendan Radigan joined the band on vocals for two shows as Time Lord for the release of The Room of Shadows. The same lineup performed select shows (as Pagan Altar) in 2018 in celebration of the band's 40th anniversary. 34 Years of The Malta Jazz Festival - a brief history The Malta Jazz Festival, an annual musical extravaganza held each July in Malta, is organized by Festivals Malta, previously a part of Arts Council Malta and the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts. The festival takes place outdoors, adjacent to Our Lady of Liesse Church, on the picturesque Valletta waterfront. Established in 1990 by Charles 'City' Gatt, the Malta Jazz Festival has welcomed a plethora of world-renowned jazz artists over the years, including Wayne Shorter, John Patitucci, Diana Krall, Chick Corea, Al Di Meola, Natalie Cole, Betty Carter, Michel Petrucciani, Richard Bona, and Mike Stern. In 2006, the festival faced controversy when it was removed from Charles Gatt's artistic direction, a pioneer of Maltese jazz, and handed over to a private promotion company. This move aimed to transform the festival into a more mainstream 'Rock and Jazz' event. However, subsequent line-ups, lacking contemporary jazz content, led to a decline in the festival's popularity. In 2009, under the leadership of Maltese musician Sandro Zerafa, the festival returned to its jazz roots, presenting a lineup of internationally acclaimed jazz musicians. This rejuvenation saw performances by esteemed artists such as Bill Stewart, Ari Hoenig, Greg Hutchinson, Dave Weckl, Dave King, Mike Stern, and Richard Bona. In the following years, the festival continued to attract top-tier talent. The news was shared by his brother Frankie on social media, marking the end of an era for Maltese music. Born and raised in Valletta, Joe Cutajar's journey in music was as diverse as it was remarkable. Not only was he celebrated as a singer, but he also made significant contributions to the world of sports, having played for esteemed football teams like Valletta FC, Ħamrun Spartans, Żurrieq, and St. George’s. Beyond his musical talents, Cutajar's love for football and his dedication to the sport were evident throughout his life. Yet, it was his passion for music that truly defined him. His performances spanned decades, taking him to various countries, including the UK, where he spent time as a cabaret artist in London's West End. In 1972, Cutajar represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Helen Micallef, performing the timeless classic "L-Imħabba." This song, remains etched in the hearts of every Maltese and Gozitan, a testament to Cutajar's enduring legacy in Maltese music history. Cliff D'Ugo, a familiar figure in the local music scene, gained prominence as a member of The Boys alongside Marc Storace and Enzo Gusman, before later joining The Country Brothers. Unfortunately, Cliff passed away on Friday, February 16, with news of his death shared on Facebook by his niece, the actress Becky D'Ugo. Cliff D'Ugo, born on November 29, 1949, in Sliema, was among the numerous siblings in the musically inclined D'Ugo family, actively participating in singing and playing music. Cliff embarked on his musical journey with The Renegades, a group that frequently performed during intermissions at dances in Sliema while The Graduates ‘headlined’, back in the 1960s. Like many musicians of his era, Cliff held a deep admiration for The Beatles. In 1967, Cliff was enlisted by The Boys to serve as their guitarist and backing vocalist. Between 1968 and 1969, alongside lead singer Enzo Guzman and later Marc storace, Anthony Farrugia on bass, Godwin Borg on drums and vocals, and Joey Chircop on organs and vocals. He contributed guitar and vocals to their debut original song, "Our Love Is Still There," recorded at Msida. However, as The Boys shifted their musical style to hard rock in the early 1970s and adopted the name Cinnamon Hades (with Marc Storace on vocals who joined The Boys in 1969), Cliff decided to part ways and pursue collaborations with other musicians and bands. Following his departure from The Boys, Cliff went on to establish Contact, a band that showcased his talents both in the UK and at various venues across Malta. Subsequently, he lent his vocals to performances alongside his brothers in the Country Bros band and engaged in duo performances with his late brother Colin, who passed away a few years ago. Around 2000 original Boys bassist Tony Farrugia was joined by Godwin Borg on drums together with Cliff on guitar and Joey Chircop on Keyboards and put down some music at Temple Studios. Production was handled by Joe Chircop and Howard Keith, who also guested on keyboards. Other guests were David Vella and Jesmond Baldacchino, both on drums. Vocal duties were shared between Godwin, Cliff, Tony, and Joey. Cliff sung lead vocals on ‘Warda Fil-Gnien’, ‘Gawra Sbejha’ and ‘Kemm Xtaqt Li Nghidlek’ and harmony on the other tracks. The album titled 'It's About Time' was released in 2001. All five members consider this collection as a celebration of 60’s music which is forever popular with all generations and as they penned on the cd’s linear notes: “they reunited after four decades from various paths in life to satisfy all music lovers everywhere with their unique cover versions and original songs. So many meetings, rehearsals, and studio [was] arranged to fit in all [of] their daily commitments which sometimes hindered this production” but was finally achieved. In recent years, Cliff has been active as a DJ and Karaoke entertainer.

TroffaĦamra launches Weġgħat Żgħar TroffaĦamra, a Maltese singer living in Barcelona, is presenting her new album, titled "Weġgħat Żgħar". The album features music that sounds familiar but with unexpected elements. Soul Introduces Thomas Farrugia as Their Newest Drummer! Soul made a big announcement on February 5th, introducing Thomas Farrugia as their new drummer. At just 20 years old, Thomas has been honing his drumming skills since the age of 5, showcasing a remarkable talent from a young age. His inaugural performance with the band will take place on February 27th, as they are featured on 'Backstage,' a TVM program dedicated to spotlighting local Maltese musicians and their work. While Soul is set to appear on the show three times, only one date has been confirmed so far: February 27th at 6:30 PM. During this episode, fans can look forward to the band performing one of their unreleased singles, 'Misery.'

The odyssey of a modest guitarist from the realm of knights to the domain of the Vikings. Embarking on a journey steeped in Metal's depths, Hellcommander Vargblod, known in the mortal realm as Mark Azzopardi, emerged from the island’s cradle in 1982. His initiation into the realm of Metal began as a mere child, enraptured by the thunderous riffs of Black Sabbath and the hypnotic melodies of Led Zeppelin, resonating through his father’s and uncle’s hifi system at home. It was this early exposure that ignited the flames of his passion for the genre, setting him on a path destined for greatness. As adolescence dawned, Vargblod's fervor for the guitar blossomed under the tutelage of his father. However, it wasn't until his formative years that he delved deeper into his craft, coalescing with two school comrades to birth his inaugural ensemble, the Hell Rats. Their sound, a fusion of thrash and NWOBHM, tinged with the burgeoning influences of black metal, marked the genesis of his musical odyssey. Simultaneously, he lent his talents to the ranks of Mannaris, a garage band endeavoring to carve their mark upon the Metal landscape. The late 90s heralded a pivotal juncture as Vargblod departed his early endeavors to embark on a 12-year sojourn with local symphonic black metal stalwarts, Martyrium. This alliance bore witness to three full-length albums, myriad performances, and traversing the European expanse. Yet, his voracious appetite for sonic exploration led him to join the ranks of Maltese hard rock veterans, Lord Adder in 2008, simultaneously joining also thrash metal outfit X-Vandals with whom he played till 2013. During 2011, after Martyrium, Vargblod's creative essence surged forth, birthing Draugul and Khaospath—two solitary ventures that epitomized his artistic ethos. Draugul, a melange of folk, pagan, and black metal, unleashed 4 full lengths, 1 split and 1 EP until 2019, alongside 3 incendiary offerings of Khaospath. Relocating to the Northern realms of Sweden in 2014, Vargblod's solo project Khaospath was developed as a four-piece outfit with additional guitar, drums and bass and captivated audiences across Sweden, Bulgaria, Finland, and his native Malta with a performance at the Xtreme Metal Assault in 2016. Around 2016 Mark guested on some guitar parts together with Lord Ahriman, from Dark Funeral, with a band named Thokkian Vortex, the new project of Lord Kaiaphas, the ex-frontman of Norwegian Black Metal act Ancient on the album ‘Into The Nagual’. Khaospath was put on a hiatus in 2019 after a line up change forged an alliance with Bjarkan, continuing the project under a new name, Myronath. Amidst a revolving door of members, Myronath garnered acclaim, bolstered by the contributions of luminaries like Lars Broddesson (ex-Marduk) and Fredrik Andersson (ex-Amon Amarth). As the eve of May 2024 looms, Myronath stands poised to unleash their third blasphemy upon the world on Italian record label Dusktone. Vargblod's creative fervor knows no bounds, as evidenced by his collaboration with Bjarkan in the creation of Dodskold, releasing an album “Ödesriket” up till now and their alliance with Norwegian Black Metal veterans Ragnarok, culminating in the birth of Helvitnir. A band that also consists of ex-Mayhem live member Ilizahg on guitars and Jan Axel “Hellhammer” Blomberg. Their first album together is set to be released later this year. In his home studio – “Minas Morgul”, he also helped out fellow brother in metal Zain (as Saint Vermin) with his debut solo album “Together as None”, released in 2013 with mixing and mastering. This collaboration brought Vargblod an alliance with Zain, Clint Aquilina, and Clayton Cini forging the infernal symphony Horned Majesty, releasing their debut single in the second part of 2023. Yet, amidst the chaos of creation, Vargblod's solo odyssey, bearing the moniker Hellcommander, emerges yet again as a beacon of unbridled creativity, unleashing upon the world through, the auspices of "Pesttanz Klangschmiede", the EP titled Year of The Goat. Endorsed by the venerable Ibanez Guitars and Richter Straps, Vargblod's journey into the Abyss knows no bounds—an eternal symphony of Metal's unyielding might.

Saru l-Qamar Phantom Limb founder and musician James Vella (A Lily) shares blissful track ‘Kemm Nixtieq Li Qed’ Phantom Limb / Kewn Records | PHNTM041 | LP, Digital | April 5th 2024 About 'Kemm Nixtieq Li Qed' After sharing ‘Ħajti Kollha, Qalbi’ last month, A Lily (Brighton-based musician James Vella) returns today with another cut from his upcoming new album 'Saru l-Qamar', out 5th April through his own label 'Phantom Limb' – setting archival Maltese home recordings to new music for a fascinating album of nostalgic quasi-ambience and cross-generational dialogue. Beautifully spacey and blissful, ‘Kemm Nixtieq Li Qed’ translates in English to "how much I wish it were so". Vella explains “While working with the tape recordings from Maltese emigres, this was a remarkably common sentiment - usually in the form of "kemm nixtieq li qiegħed Malta" - "how much I wish I was in Malta". The phrase itself is imbued with sadness, but in this instance that sadness becomes so real, so tangible: in many cases (including my own family's), those that left Malta in that period left in search of more stable political prospects that allowed them to live and work freely. Many were torn away from their home, their friends, their lives. I wanted to express this sadness in my arrangement of the recording, and I wanted to honour the experiences of the speaker on the tape. Not much of his recording has survived the decades since its taping, but even these snatches of audible dialogue reveal a deep lament. My arrangement - as with the rest of the album - is for hardware synthesis, focusing on gentle beat-less rhythms that can tell a story in themselves, and a melody line that floats in a heavily reverberous space to reflect the ghostliness of the passage of time.” About 'Saru l-Qamar' From the 60’s until the modern era, it was common for Maltese families to receive reel tapes from relatives abroad. Maltese emigres resettled in Australia, the UK, Canada etc. would record their news onto cassette - often in the form of għana, traditional Maltese song - and mail the tapes back home. Amazingly, through the superlative archival work of Malta’s nonprofit heritage foundation Magna Żmien, many of these tapes still exist. A Lily (Phantom Limb boss and musician James Vella) - who is Maltese - was allowed access to Magna Żmien’s collection and in late 2022 began creating new musical works responding to these recordings. These works take up the oneiric bliss of new album Saru l-Qamar [Eng: They Became The Moon], his first release on his own label, and released in Malta under Kewn Records. Arranged alongside hardware synthesis and “minimal DAW intervention”, the recordings on Saru l-Qamar take on ghostly, spiritual new qualities. Simple storytelling and news-sharing (“there was a burglar in the house yesterday”, “I can’t tell you how much I miss Malta”, “do your utmost to spend all your money at the feast”) become plaintive and evocative elegies for friends and family lost to time. “This is the meaning of the album title,” Vella writes. “Though these people have left us, they can never be truly forgotten, as without them we would not be here. They become part of the fabric of our lives, remaining forever and inexorably within the makeup of every subsequent generation. They have become the moon - always present, but always out of reach.” James Vella’s A Lily project was most recently seen with twin releases Sleep Through the Storm and Nocturne Thunder, released on The Ransom Note’s Bytes label in 2020 and 2022 respectively. Malta mourns rock pioneer Cliff D'Ugo Cliff D'Ugo is not a new face to those who follow the local music scene. He was part of the group The Boys, together with Marc Storace and Enzo Gusman and The Country Brothers later on. Unfortunately, Cliff left this world on Friday, February 16. His death was announced on Facebook by his niece, the actress Becky D'Ugo. Cliff plays guitar and vocals on the first ever original song recorded by the BOYS alongside singer Marc Storace, Anthony Farrugia on bass, Godwin Borg drums and vocals, and Joey Chircop on organs and vocals. It was titled 'Our Love Is Still There' and was recorded at Msida between1968 and 1969. the song can be heard here. Cliff also featured on the album 'It's About Time' which The Boys released in 2001. Amber's journey as a judge on season 4 of X Factor Malta came to an end last Saturday and what better way to end the experience then by releasing a song dedicated to her son who she welcomed only a week before the first live show. Throughout her journey on the X Factor, she was pregnant, giving birth just a week before the first live show. A significant moment of closure came when she released her latest single, 'Għanja lil Ġużi ', on the X Factor Final stage. Amber rose to prominence representing Malta in the 2015 Eurovision with 'Warrior' and has continued to grow her artistry and release her original music ever since. In addition to her role on the X Factor Season 4 judging panel, 2023 proved to be a bustling year for Amber. Born on August 13, 1936, in Floriana, Murgo's musical journey began at the age of six when he started studying music theory and violin under the guidance of his father, Rosario, himself a skilled violinist. Despite his father's untimely death two years later, Murgo's musical education continued under Mro Agostino Camilleri. By the age of thirteen, Murgo showcased his talent at the Christmas Midnight Mass in Zebbug Parish Church, marking the beginning of his illustrious career. In his youth, Murgo's interest in jazz blossomed after being exposed to the works of renowned jazz violinists Stephan Crapetti and Joe Venuti. Living in Floriana, a vibrant hub of live music, Murgo frequented local bars, honing his skills alongside various pianists and drummers. Alongside his cousin Sammy Galea, Murgo began his musical journey at the Klondyke, owned by their uncle Minco, where Galea proposed Murgo transition from the violin to the saxophone. It was not until he encountered Robert Juice Wilson, an American jazz musician residing in Malta, that Murgo made the leap to the saxophone. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Murgo's talent flourished as he performed at renowned venues such as the Kenner Club in Valletta and the Caffè Premier, collaborating with esteemed bandmasters and musicians. His versatility and dedication to jazz led to collaborations with prominent musicians like Charles City Gatt and Edward Briffa. Murgo's contributions to the local jazz scene were further amplified through television appearances and collaborations with renowned composers such as Charles Camilleri. Despite facing health challenges, including heart surgery in 1998, Murgo's passion for music never waned. In 1999, he performed alongside his cousin Dominic Galea in an open-air concert at the Royal Opera House in Valletta and continued to participate in the local annual Jazz Festival. Murgo's commitment to music culminated in a memorable tribute concert in 2016, celebrating his 80th birthday at the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity. Following his passing, tributes poured in from fellow musicians and officials, underscoring Murgo's enduring legacy and profound impact on the local music community. Culture Minister Owen Bonnici expressed sorrow at his death, highlighting Murgo's extraordinary talent and influence on aspiring musicians. Victorio's post read: "Dearest family and friends, I want you all to know after much consideration and a heavy heart that I will be departing from the lead singer of ‘The Crowns’ to pursue new opportunities in music, as a singer and most of all to be with my family. I started the band way back in 2010, and I will never look back. Yes, it wasn’t an easy decision, but we decided to part ways and have a fresh start. 14 years is not a joke but looking forward to new beginnings. While it will be different, it is time for me to explore new artistic avenues. I am so excited to continue and can’t wait for all of you to see what I will have in store for you. Emanuel Micallef, affectionately called Lito by his peers, would have celebrated his 55th birthday today. The moniker was bestowed upon him by one of his classmates during his early primary school years in Birgu. His journey into the world of music began alongside his elder brothers, Pawlu Micallef and Horace Micallef, and their circle of friends from Birgu and the surrounding areas….. At the age of 13, in 1982, Lito made his initial appearance on stage as part of the Vittoriosa Rock Opera Group, a production directed and choreographed by his brother, Horace Micallef. It was on February 14, 1984, that Lito auditioned as a vocalist for the band Trash, hailing from Cospicua and influenced by Black Sabbath MKI. Instead, he joined the band as a roadie, but soon developed a keen interest in his local group, Purple Haze, led by guitarist Steve Borg. Lito assumed the role of the band's official lyricist, and his talents led him to compose a Rock Mass at St. Lawrence Church in Birgu, paying homage to his beloved father, fondly known as Il-Mike, a cherished figure among soccer enthusiasts. For a brief period, the Bormla band Trash and the Birgu band Purple Haze amalgamated as Dark Medallion, with Lito serving as their roadie. Subsequently, Lito co-founded the band Avalanche, as the Vittoriosa Rock Opera Group acquired a section of Fort St. Angelo in Birgu for their creative endeavors, which also housed studios for Purple Haze and Stratkast MKII. However, Lito later departed from Avalanche, and Frankie Tanti took his place. During Frankie Tanti's tenure, Avalanche performed at Cafe Riche in Birgu and for one of Ħaż-Żabbar's festa band clubs. Lito briefly joined Exorcist without any live performances. In 1985, he became a member of Ivory Cross, with their rehearsal space located in Żejtun. Their sole live appearance took place at the RockPak concert in 1986, held at the Floriana Catholic Institute. In 1986, Lito left Ivory Cross to replace Ivan Grech (now part of Winter Moods) in Lords of Misrule. Lito showcased his vocal talents twice at the annual Maltasajf concert, held at Pembroke's Shooting Range. Eventually, he was succeeded by Daryl Ebejer, formerly of Entracht and later a member of Purple Haze, Kartridge and 12th Ode. Meanwhile, Lito collaborated with Ivan Filletti to establish Filletti & Friends, who became the resident band at Rock-A-Buzz 1987/88 in Kennedy Grove and The Splash And Fun Park in Baħar Iċ-Ċagħaq. In 1988, Lito briefly joined a band based in Birżebbuġa named One Across. He made a sole appearance as the band's lead vocalist during a New Year's Eve celebration in Paceville. It was during this time that he began writing live gig reviews for Far Out and occasionally filled in for Tony Miceli's musical page in Il-Mument and Mark Doneo's musical page in It-Torċa. Lito made his debut in a recording studio when the Vittoriosa Rock Opera Group worked on an original musical called Iskra. Horace Micallef penned the musical's story centered around the Russian Revolution, featuring lyrics by Raymond Tabone and music by Mark Vella of Stratkast fame. The musical was staged at Dar il-Mediterran in Valletta and later at the Depiro Centre in Tas-Sliema. Due to logistical reasons, the cast and crew of Iskra were reduced, and Lito took on the acting role of Batinov, miming to the voice of Charles Azzopardi at the Ċittadella Rabat Għawdex and as part of a cultural exchange program in one of Turin, Italy's local councils. He later co-founded The Moviment Mużika Rok, which had a short existence. After spending several years as a singer without a band, Lito joined Brainstorm in 1991, replacing Mark Storm. This coincided with the opening of The Alley in Paceville, where live bands performed. With Lito as the vocalist, Brainstorm recorded two tracks for the multi-band compilation called Watching The Music. The recording took place at Temple Studios Imġarr in 1992. The compilation featured two tracks from five bands commissioned by Radio 101 to celebrate the station's first anniversary. The project was launched live at the Eden Palladium in Bajja ta' San Ġorġ, San Ġiljan and on radio simultaneously. The same trio behind Iskra formed the events company Synergix and worked on another original musical called Living Legends, which was presented as a live performance. The musical took place at Dar Il-Mediterran, and Lito portrayed the character Hasan. After leaving Brainstorm, Lito explored various bands as a vocalist before deciding to shift his musical career to become a rock DJ, performing at different venues over the years. He made his debut as a rock DJ at Sticky Fingers in Qawra. Lito initially began his DJ/presenter career on the pirate radio station Radju Alternattiva, commissioned by the newly formed political party Alternattiva Demokratika (AD). When AD obtained a local broadcasting license in Valletta, Radju 99 was born. Lito hosted rock/blues shows such as "Rock On" and "The Blues Connection." In 1997, Lito co-founded Mediacoop, which led to the establishment of Capital Radio 88.7FM. He launched his first rock show called "Radio Lito" on the first Saturday of July 1998. Among the bands interviewed during this period were Winter Moods, Scream Daisy, and Joe Mizzi's band. In 2000, the radio schedule for Capital Radio introduced the rock show "System Overload" and the Sunday program "Slow An' Easy", later renamed “Easy On Sunday” and which focused on soft rock and power ballads. "System Overload" featured interviews with bands such as Forsaken, Winter Moods, Scream Daisy, Fire, Frenzy Mono, Corkskrew, Beangrowers, Different Strings, and Nomad Son. On April 1, 2009, Capital Radio discontinued its broadcasts. On July 9, Lito joined Joe Genovese on Xalata Rock, and on October 8, he replaced Joe Tanti and joined Noel Mifsud on Rock Moods, both shows aired on One Radio 92.7FM. On April 6, 2010, Lito began airing pre-recorded episodes of his show, the Cottonera Rock Show, on Kottoner 98FM, with repeats on Saturdays and Sundays.On January 4, 2011, the Cottonera Rock Show was replaced by "System Overload," which was also aired on allRock via the digital system DAB Plus later that year. This marked a unique occurrence of a rock show being simultaneously broadcasted on two different stations. However, the program concluded after 30 editions in August 2011. Excerpts from the show were aired on Kottoner 98FM during the remaining slots in August and throughout September. In October 2011, the Cottonera Rock Show returned to the airwaves, replacing System Overload on Kottoner 98FM. During the same month, Lito joined the Fuzz Box team on Radio 101 as a live program contributor. However, four years later, the station's administration discontinued Lito's involvement after he posted some black-humored comments on Facebook regarding the Paqpaqli għall-Istrina incident. His remarks received harsh criticism from Facebook users, who deemed them inappropriate. Lito subsequently apologized and deleted the comments. Manuel Micallef, widely known as DJ Lito, tragically passed away at the age of 47 on Sunday, May 29, 2016, when his car was involved in a head-on crash on the Cospicua seafront. Note from the author: I first met Lito on the bus to school in our teens, him being from Birgu and me from Paola, and probably due to our common interest, rock music, we clicked immediately, although we used to dispute without end on who’s the best guitarist, singer and so on. He was a Ronnie James Dio aficionado and was one of our debated topics till Lito’s early demise nearly eight years ago. After our school years we sort of drifted apart as we started jobs which took us in different directions, although we occasionally met during some event or another, of course the topics of our conversations would be the Rock and heavy metal scene, especially the Maltese one. In 2009 our paths met again when One Radio programme manager Ray Azzopardi informed me that from October Lito will co-host Rock Moods with me. It was an interesting period alternating week in week out who chose the music for the show, and thus making it more vibrant and motivating. During the summer of 2011, the show took a sabbatical and later on Lito informed me that he was given a chance to produce his own show on Radio 101, and so we became guests from time to time in each other’s shows. Of course, we kept our yearly guest appearance on Michael Bugeja’s show Rockna with his end of year edition discussing local releases throughout the ending year. One of the most notable shows I am flattered to have been invited on, was The Cottonera Rock Show special edition during Christmas time 2012. Also invited on Lito’s show were Michael Bugeja, Dorian Cassar and Charles Marsh. Other notable appearances together that I’ll cherish forever were the celebration of Rockna’s anniversary at Valletta’s Hard Rock Café and the mega event ‘Remembering Steve Borg’ held at Paceville’s HRC on the 16th February 2014. An event organised by Purple Haze, the band Steve* founded in the early 80’s, and friends. Sometimes months passed before we met or talked, but one thing for sure Lito would always be present at the Simon’s Pub yearly music marathon where we would evoke back to our discussions. On that fateful day, a Sunday, I was at home, probably watching football or listening to music when I was contacted by a mutual friend delivering the sad news that our beloved Lito was involved in an accident and that now he’s pestering Ronnie James Dio and Lemmy in person, but still every year nearing the end of it we still feel his presence while recording the annual end of year Rockna show. He was proud to love all that is Maltese and although gone he shall never be forgotten. *The music scene lost Steve on 4th February 2013.

Despite currently living in Sweden, it was revealed in the last months of 2023 that he would be collaborating with Horned Majesty. Horned Majesty is a collective effort featuring seasoned Maltese musicians. In addition to Mark on bass, the lineup includes Clint Aquilina (ex Putrid Birth) on vocals, Clayton Cini (Animamortua, Thy Legion, ex-Angel Blade, ex-Relicuia, ex-Shadowborne) on drums, and Zain Gauci (Saint Vermin, Pilgrimage, Chaotic Remains, Halcyon). Their debut single, 'Bringer Of Light,' was released in October.
